I remember going to a car show in the 60s and seeing cars with non running engines. One that sticks out was a T altered the lower blower pulley didn't look right looking closer it was just stuck in the front seal with the blower belt around it. There was no crankshaft.
1955 San Jose Autorama: Barris's '32 five window (the brown full fendered one with all those tiny flame licks in white and green) Deuce had a Cad in it, much chrome. George was there as usual, doing lots of self promotion. I asked him very discreetly how the Deuce could run with no crankshaft. There, big as life in the lower timing cover seal bore...was a stainless Plumber's "goof plug". George said I had a 'good eye', as the crankshaft hadn't gotten back from the chromer! "The show must go on..."
Our hometown area "big" show isn't that big. But I remember some guys pushing their car in huffing and puffing. They later admitted that the motor had no internals and especially no oil as that would stain the gaskets!
Been to several shows where people would say, yeah I drive it all the time....or I drove to the event at Heavey Rebel in Winston Salem just to find out they drove it from the trailer at the hotel.....thats not a driver if you trailer to anything over 30 miles from home. The guy didn't realize we drove up in our T. Sent from my SM-T310 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
This one is pretty famous for its gutted motors. (After having broken the car in two, while loading it on a trailer.)
