    Hi guys.

I would like to make new distributor based on what Bubba does. I'm not trying to be compe***ion in any kind, it's just a matter that I can do things my self.
Question here is regarding MECHANICAL ADVANCE as we know the stock distributor no longer function correctly with multicarb application.

So then, can someone give me some clues on setting the mechanical advance? Does it max 24°?

Thank you very much for any kind of info.

If you do a search here, you will find what you need to know. I reworked a small block chevy points dizzy for mine. Works good. No vac. advance hooked up. I found the mechanical advance nearly perfectly limited by the rotor I am using.

How can a rotor limit the mechanical advance?

Steves29 so you saying that SBC dizzy mechanical advance don't require resetting? Did you remove that vacuum diaphragm completely or did you just blanked it?

Just capped the ****** . And also the weights stop against the rotor when installed. I checked the total advance at 28 deg.

I was toying with the idea of adjustable stops on the bottom of the rotor as well, if nec. I used a timing light with adjustable advance to check it running.

After total dis***embly look under the distributor cam for a number ( like 22-24-32 etc 24CCW is typical) Thats how MUCH advance that distributor left the factory with. You really only want 16-18 for the flathead. Bushings are available for these units to limit the working advance. The vac may be disabled bu welding the vac shaft and cutting off the can flush from the distributor.
Do a search using my previous posts i have written tons on the subject. Glad to help any way i can....

Could a SBC Mallory distributor also be modified to fit a Flathead?
I've got a couple and a couple of factory ones I won't be needing since I've switched entirely over to Ford FE engines. Maybe I can help someone out (Bubba?). I've got the FE Grant-Spaulding I e-mailed you about a couple of months ago ----
