  1. Well it is a MODEL a, correct?

  2. We know what a Chevy 6 sounds like with duals and glasspacs.
I'm pulling into a parking place, at a car show, when two guys walk up to my drivers door, as I'm parking, ask me WHY I put a Ford flathead in my '51 Chevy ?
    I didn't, I said.
I park, open the hood, which exposes the 235.
See, one says to the other, I told you it was a flathead.

Father and son looking at my flathead. Father says to son that engine is called a nailhead because of the head bolts on top.
    I let it slide.

Over hearing a "Gold Chainer" at the LSRU explain to a pretty young girl that his glass 1933 kit car was "vastly superior" to any original 33 because his came with a 1000 horsepower motor and had a built in wine chiller.........and then asked if she would like to go cruising with him and share one of the "fine bottles of wine I already have chilled".

I've had people argue that my '56 Nomad is a '55 and that it is not a real Nomad because it says Bel Air right there on the side.

  7. My Dad told me all kinds of stuff growing up, I always thought he was full of it. Turns out, I was full of it and he was right all along. I really miss him.

  8. Well stated Don,there is no reason to take issue and make a man look foolish in front of his children, pointing out a mans faux pas in a situation like this can only make you both look small. HRP

I have friends that are "car guys" that say weird, inaccurate, ignorant, and foolish stuff all the time. Just have a look at some of the conversations had here on this forum, which is supposed to be a gathering place of automobile knowledge. I don't mean this with disrespect, it's just the way humans are wired to talk and socialize even when they don't really know what they're talking about. People believe what they want to and fill in the gaps of stuff they don't know if it makes a good story. They also embellish the truth and exaggerate for effect.

Sometimes, though, they say some downright funny shit which is why we have threads like this!

There's a local guy here in town (who happens to president of a local car club), that insists that my 37 Ford sedan is a coupe. "Nice coupe dude", every time I see him. "Hey you gonna bring the coupe?"

  12. Post "man show" comment, from yesterday. Stopped in to one of the O'Reilly stores to pick up some stuff. Parked the coupe out front, where the counter guys could see it, and saw 3 of them standing at the window looking out when I entered the door. I head back to grab the ATF I was there for, and I hear one of the guys tell the other how he loves the set of Cragar's that I have on the car. (I've got American Torq Thrust Originals)

Can't count the times people would look at my Nomad {long gone} and say nice car, I had one just like it only mine had 4 doors.

  14. I went to the local Saturday night cruise with the blown hemi coupe when it had eight strombergs on top. im barely out of the car when this loud mouth elbows his friend saying watch this. there quite a few people around and this guy lets out very loudly I bet that car don't get good mileage with all those carbs on it. he is smiling looking at his buddies for support. I responded. if I wanted mileage I would have drove in a prius with a big pink pussy on the hood. then walked away. I could hear his friends laughing at the guy. I normally wouldn't be so rude but the guy was really a jerk. another time a guy in a torino was trying to impress his wife. he was talking crap about my car and how fast the torino was. he asked if I ever race the car etc. after several minutes of this race talk I finally said hey if you want to race stop scratching your ass and grab your wallet im ready now. the guy got real concerned and while he was looking the car over again his wife asked if I really race it. I showed her a pic on my phone pulling a three foot wheelie. she went over to him and had a quiet conversation. they slowly slipped away.

Stupid question 1: What country is your wagon from?
Stupid question 2: How come you put Chevy Suburban nameplates on a Plymouth?

  20. I was going to say the exact same thing. With small kids, I think it's more important for a dad to have an answer, rather than the right answer. Doesn't harm anyone, and makes the dad look a little more of a hero.
That being said, I don't mind putting in my correction or two cents when the 'kid' is a teenager.

  21. Sam, there's a saying that says .....
When I was 16, my Dad knew NOTHING.
Funny how he got to know so much, by the time I turned 21.

When I was in high school in the late '60's, my best friend's older brother raced a '41 Willys in C/Gas. It was all steel, the body painted blue, but the front fenders were old white paint with some surface rust showing through. This 20 something genius walks up, taps the front fender with his knuckle and says to his girlfriend, "fiberglass". My friend and I just looked at each other and laughed.

At the '15 Hot Rod Riot in Victoria, we were sitting under a tree behind my '62 T-Bird taking a break from walking around. This family walks up with 2 kids, a boy about 6-7, and a girl about 10.
They're looking at my car, when the boy notices my Whataburger number tent (Google it) on the dash.
He reads "wha-tuh-bur-ger-six-two" off to his sister, then says "He must have got that from Whataburger."
The girl looks at it, then real seriously says "I think he stole it."

  30. I have to pick up some Plymouth scripts for the sides of my Ford. Maybe a Dodge on one side, Plymouth on the other, could be a lot of fun since few under the age of 55 would recognize a '59 Ford even with the correct name on it.
