Never thought I'd see you on here Greg!! IS that T-bird up and running now? It didn't look like it need too much to be drivable the last time I saw it.

I had a '63 T-Bird at one time and wanted to do this treatment to it...after studying these pics, I realized there was an AMAZING amount of work in that car...

Yeah, I finally made it over here. I'm going to get it running this spring and I plan on taking up to work and stiffen the body then cut that top off! I sold my vert stang and instead of buying another, I'm just gonna make a vert out of the bird. Hopefully you'll see me rolling this summer.

This one was just at the Portland roadster show this weekend. The roof is from a starliner. I stole the pic from the HAMB thread about the Portland roadster show.

Thanks for the pics guys. I would love to have a "bullet" bird, but I have to work with what I got, a 64. In pic that Squablow posted, they ruined one of the best parts of the car IMO. Keep em coming.

Those cars look great with just a few mods. It doesn't even look like the top is chopped on the hardtop. I've alreay shaved the handles, trim and antenna. I plan on cutting the top off and cutting down the seats so you will have a real sleek side profile. I didnt realize how nice the factory hubcaps look just with a wider white on them. Those bullet birds are nice!

Yeah, I did see it, but the color and wheels just killed the whole thing for me. I wish I could have seen how they braced the car for the chop.

Didn't Harpoon usta have a multi-shaded copper one?

  16. Seen that kind of cut done on a few cars, and if no bracing is done prior to the cut the car is pretty much a constant headache after that. The body flexes every which way and besides the rattles its a real pain to keep the doors adjusted. A good approach is to use some rollbar tubing and run a brace across the car right behind the seat with a couple of diagonal braces running back to the wheelwells. Forget about the back seat and do an upholstered panel going all the way back to the rear deck and down to the floor up front. And since you're not worried about about normal upholstery you can permanently mount your bracing prior to the cut.

Another idea for final finish would be to build a real panel like the factory built for that sport roadster look with humbs over the front seats.

    My 2 cents.........

I need the back seat for my two littles one to cruise with me. My unofficial plan right now ( havent removed interior yet) is to run a brace from rear wheelhouse to wheelhouse. Then possibly run a brace from the front of wheelhouse to the rocker inside the 1/4 by the backseat. My final brace would be a subframe connectors front to back. I dont know how ugly that would be, but I would try to make it the best I could. This wont be a show car with mirrors under the car, more like a awesome driver. The doors shut so great now with just a push of the finger, I will definetaly want to brace it good to preserve that.

I really like the idea of a "restyled" car.Very subtle mods, think Jimmy Vaughan and Gary Howard.I would try to keep the T-Bird as stock as possible beside the mods visible in the pic.Stock interior, stock paint to make the car look "factory".I really like those early 60's T-Birds and other early 60's cars as well but especially the T-Birds are low flying rocketships.Cool cars.I googled the pic and here is the before and after.Hope you are building something similar.

By the way,I fogot to shave the fender trim on the droptop but stock windshield height is fully intended.

The vert is more like what I'm aiming for. I plan on welding the fender skirts, hood scoop and the seam at the fender/rocker and possibly the cowl panel to the fenders too. I'm really going for a long low look.

  21. Not a Flairbird, but local Bulletbird now being painted, see it at Round-up. ;)
    (or on 114)

I also want a Roadster but deal with a HT.
I really hate the HT roofline on the 61-63.
Well i'm having a ball with it, until I decide what else to do.

I used to think the same way. I hated the roof on the hardtops so I bought a convertible. Now I like the hardtops better!! Sometimes it is really hard being me.

  26. Just a slight mod but if you get '65 taillight lenses you can get rid of the birds and have a solid block of red taillights I always thought it looked cool. Stu

I'm working on my '65 Bird for the magazine (TRK). Just like most said on this thread: Very few mods are needed. Just a shave and a hair cut, some lowering, and a nice set of Radirs! I'm keeping the roof though..I want the articles to be simple enough that most guys could do it at home.
