I bought this steering box to put in my deuce , the seller told me it was a f100 box.
I need to order parts to rebuilt it but i'm not sure what i got.
On the shaft there was a little paper with 56 590 on it .
On the box i only see "A3" , "gemmer" and "3CC03"
I tried the search function and found the same one for sale , advertised says 1956 so i think i'm good.
    Can somebody confirm ?

  2. Sure looks like an F100 box to me!
The earlier F1 boxes had the column shaft exit out the bottom while the F100 boxes exit out the top.

I have the same box on my '33. Can't identify the numbers as my box has been smoothed out and chromed but visually is identical. Vern Tardel has a nice booklet regarding identifying and rebuilding these early boxes http://www.verntardel.com/collections/books/products/ford-steering-booklet . Parts are easily available over here in the States. Use only 600w oil or #00 grease as anything lighter has a tendency to run out over time. Most of the grease sold is for chassis or wheel bearings and is type 2 (no good). Vintique sells 600w oil; several manufacturers sell #00 grease, a lot of Hambers like John Deere Corn Head grease. I found some #00 grease at a local lawnmower shop as it is used in mower gearboxes.

I don't remember the lengths but I know the 53-55 boxes and the 56 boxes had different length shafts to fit different steering wheels. One had a deeper dish. You should verify this but I think the 56 is shorter. Otherwise they are the same.

56 is a couple inches shorter.
