  1. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg What fan to use. Old chromed 4 blade or try and fix the 6 blades. Can this 6 blade be fixed by heating it up and rebending it, or would that jeopardize the blade. Also has anyone ever welded on a pullie before. The 2 belt pullie has a broken piece I'm thinkin I can just make a piece and weld her back up. Or I might just machine a new pullie to be safe. Anybody ever welded a pullie and it blew apart??? I try and learn from others mistakes so I don't do the same. Lol

I wouldn't try to un-bend that blade. If you want to save the fan, I'd make six new blades for it, and rivet them with fresh new rivets, assuming that the hub is ok. You don't want fan parts exiting your car at high speed.

  3. I've heard of guys having their fans balanced at lawnmower repair shops. Mainly after the blades have been trimmed or new blades installed.

  4. image.jpg image.jpg My wife just found these pics. Are computor has crashed 2 times in the last few years so iv lost a ton of pictures and some how these were on her external hard drive. This is grandpa and pat ganahl at the p.r.c. Roadster picnic about 5 years ago. Pat took him for a ride and I think that was the first time he had been in a 32 in over 60 years. Sorry for pic quality.

I remember that day well. a Very good time. Glad that she found these pix.
The purple 32 in the background is John Byron's He's had it since 1952 I believe and he's the guy that I was seeking the pedal mods for the column shift for you. He did it back then and was explaining it to me. He's about your grandfathers age and still drives that 32 with a 4spd stick. He's just had a bout with cancer, I hope that he gets a chance to meet your Granddad @ TROG.

the numbers on my car were basically just randomly picked, when i sent in my app for TROG all the numbers i was asking about were taken so i just told em to tell me whats available!

lots of junk sitting around the yard

Theres a couple ways to do the distributor conversion also, this is the one out of my 36 3 window survivor car, you can soldier on to the caps too, i sold a restored spalding lincoln ducoil and it had the rotor mod you posted above.

Hey, that's an awesome story and history about your granddad! I immediately pulled out the old hot rods scrapbook I have from Don Montgomery and searched of pictures of your dads car. There are some pics of the pasadena roadster club but none I could identify as your grandpa's car. Here are some I found. If you want, I'll make pictures of all the other fotos which are said to be of the prc. But I'll do that the next weekend.

Still looking through the Montgomery books also. I know there has to be one in their. I did come across one of my favorites. Harry Okia tightening up bearings between runs. My dad didn't remember anyone doing this. I wonder if your grandpa did! And one of dad's brothers rolling tags, not a good run. Lol

  19. Hey Titus, is the v-12 conversion only in the caps and rotor? Like if I found a running v-12 dist. Do I only have to modify the caps and rotor or are the points and condensers different too. Thanks for the help

  20. Nice you got a timing tag too. Is that the only one??? That's crazy that guy flipping up that car to check mains. I would love to have that picture in a poster. Thanks for looking in those books too.

The Lincoln to V8 conversion requires the modification to the rotor OR the caps, then the point plate from a '40 Ford, new point sets, grinding the extra lobes off the cam, and rewiring the coil/condensors. Search around the HAMB for those magazine articles with all the particulars. All those vintage articles have been posted before.

  24. We'll with work and 4 kids I'm trying. How about this new motor I just drove 6 hours round trip to get for 200 bucks. It's bored to 3-3/8 but I think it might just need a hone. And one valve. Nice little Johnson's adjustable lifters in there. Chromed crank pully and some pennies in the heat ports. Ones from 1949 and the other is 1957. Can any tell me if it's a merc motor or a ford motor. The stroke is 3-3/4. I didn't get that lucky to get a 4" crank too. It ok cuz I have a 49 merc motor to rob the crank out of. Or if I can do a quick rebuild 268 cubic inches would be good enough. Is there an easy way to tell a ford from a merc? Red to green? You like my wife's pick up truck image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

  27. Also why would the pistons be stamped std if it's over bored 3/16????? Different pistons that come standard at 3-3/8??? I'm gonna take it this week to get cleaned and sonic tested. Magged to check cracks. We will see

Been following your build thread. Cool story with you and your grandfather! With the 59A block you have just picked up, there is no difference in Ford and Mercury blocks, they are all the same. My concern is that the block has already been bored out to 3 3/8 inches. When a block has been bored out that far to 3 3/8 inches, this is in most cases is the last bore that will be done on the block. Any more than the 3 3/8 inches you are going to have an overheating issue as precious metal has already been removed from the cylinder walls and your block is now prone to heat buildup being that the cylinder walls are now that much thinner. If the block is in good condition you may get by with a cleanup bore but heat buildup may still be an issue. A much better choice would be a block bored to 3 5/16 inches and with your 4 inch Merc crank you would have a 276 cu. inch flathead. A 3 3/8 bore with a 4 inch Merc crank would be a 286 cu. inch flathead. You still did quite well on your purchase of the 59A block. Between the Johnson lifters, crank pulley, front cover and water pump cores you got your money back on the purchase price. You will have some good connecting rods in there and you may even score an aftermarket cam as well. Picking up the original spring blocks was a really good plan. I have heard of guys dropping the Chinese ones on the cement floor and having them break. Henry Ford original parts are definitely the way to go.
