Hi, my name is Cody. I basically reposes furniture for stores like Mckinneys/RAC/Eagle when people decide to quick paying, its a terrible job. I'm currently going to school for a two year metallurgy degree. I have an addiction to cars, I bought my first when I was 16, I'm now 21 and can say I have probably had in the area of 20+ since then. I generally only had 2-3 at any given moment, I love to find things broken and fix them. Most were sub 2k cars, going to school I don't really have a lot of cash and those were always the easiest to flip because of the area I live in. Enough about me, I currently have a 79 Supra with a 4m-e 5spd, a VG30ET/5spd z31 swapped Nissan S12 which is my primary drift car and my 1986 Nissan 300ZX. It has a plain Jane Vg30 that is on it's last limb. I got the car for around 800$. It was either lit on fire or had actually had a pretty serious engine fire due to the recalls they had on the fuel injectors. Turns out Z's are about as flammable as your average Fiero. I rewired the Engine to spec with a FSM and am still having plenty of issues. My solution was turning it into a track car, I've always wanted a Z for Track/Hill Climb use in Pittsburgh. Since then I have taken it down to bare metal, shot it with Diamond clear. Started a set of custom metal wide fenders and have just been working on the suspension. I'm hoping to whip up a rear splitter soon. Since then I have picked up a 350 SBC out of a 79 Chevelle and a NV3500 from a 2004 Xtreme Chevy with the hydraulic throw out and the top feed style linkage. The engine was 250$, couldn't p*** the deal up. And I have 400$ in the trans from starter to driveshaft complete with 90K miles. My current issue is after I removed the Flexplate from the SBC, (as it was a 700R4 swap) my flywheel for the nv3500 wont fit. It appears the centerbore is smaller than lip on the blocks rotating ***embly. I was reading that I probably needed a 168 Tooth flywheel anyhow and actually planned on replacing this Clutch/Flywheel setup. My only concern is my pocket is unfortunately not a bottomless pit and if I buy the wrong thing it will probably set me back a few months. If anyone has done a similar swap Engine/Trans wise I would love to have some insight, I have done some research but it would be better to hear it real time from someone else rather than just on a old thread before I make the purchase. Mounting everything in the car and reinforcing it will be the easy part for me, but when it comes to mating the two I haven't the slightest idea. Thanks a million guys, Looking forward to becoming an active member of this forum! *I've uploaded a few pictures of it and the setup I have been working on, although they are all totally in the wrong order.
Would this be the flywheel I needed to run? I understand with a 168 tooth flywheel I can use an 11" clutch which is perfect for the NV3500. I wish I knew more about the sunject at hand. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/atp-z296/overview/make/chevrolet
I am anew member too, joined a while back, and I am also from West Virginia, I live about a half an hour north of Charleston. I am now 16 years old and my grandfather gave me a big project, a 1940 Chevy pickup, which I plan on turning into a restomod and will hopefully get started on it soon, I am like you, my pockets are not bottomless, so I need to find parts as cheap as possible and do as much of the work I can on my own, that will hopefully get the price down a bit, and good luck on your project.
If you need any 216/217 parts I most likely have extras! I have three tore down, the other one is in my 41 DeLuxe. Nice to see someone from the area, good luck man!
Thanks, I will need a lot of luck, I am planning on saving up enough for an ls swap if I get lucky and find a solid used motor that I can get cheap
It is foreign, Japanese cars actually, they are usually really reliable, if you have never heard of Nissan or the Toyota Supra you must live under a rock
Well we can't all be driving around the same cars, I mean i'd find it pretty boring if I went to a local show and it happened to be that we were all turning wrenches on the same blue 65 mustang.
