Not a big update but I've started to compile a box of stereo equipment. The plan is a hidden modern head unit in the glove box (donated by my brother in law from a Chrysler 300.) a pair of 6x9 under the rear tray , a 10" sub and amp in the trunk and a couple smaller speakers in the kick panels or hidden under the dash. Probably won't do much till spring but I'll post any updates over the winter. The plan is to build an "antique" speaker enclosure.
I put a pair of 3 way 4" speakers in the original dash speaker hole just made a sheetmetal mounting plate super easy I'll see if I have some pics
Thought I'd give you a couple pics of my sub and amp rack in my 53 even tho it's gonna change because I'm bagging the back and gonna have to step the floor also the 6x9s are mounted behind the amps I cut 6x9s holes in rear tray then incorporated speaker grill fabrics into the package tray (kinda see it on the side pic of the car)..... so speakers are in boxes and not screwed to the metal just some ideas for you
thanks so much for the pictures. a lot of great ideas there. can't wait for the weather to warm again.
i like that speaker setup... and aint nothing wrong with more doors. my 54 plymouth project is my first lowbuck build (or any build with 4 wheels for that matter)
Not much. Canadian winters are not the place to be working in the driveway. But it's warming up quick. I've collected some goodies over the winter. Stereo head unit, 6x9s , 4" 2 ways, 1x 10" sub and a small amp. All will be hidden. Also scored a set of period seat belt. (Should at least strap the kids in) wife has been really sick and has to cut her hours drastically so my low budget build just turned into a no budget build. Still gonna rattle can paint it this year though.
I put a stereo in the glove box as well. It came with a remote so I cut a few of the slots in the glovebox door so the remote would work with the door closed. It not very visible
Cool. Can't wait to get back to it. My son even said the other day that he can't wait till the snow is gone so he can work on the car again.
Nice build, I like the 50's four doors myself. Possibly looking at a '53 Pontiac Monday (that's how I stumbled onto this forum). This is the only pic I have right now.
Not exactly an update but we had some rain and ice here yesterday and it made for a beautiful effect.
Real update time. Started my stealth stereo install by making a plate to go behind the factory grill. (Thanks for the pictures and ideas)
Did I miss something here, reading your posts ? I see dual exhausts there. Did you split the 6 cylinder manifold ?
my eldest already gave me the deadline to drive him to school on the first day of highschool this september.
