So, I called my Buick contact and he gave me some news that pretty much nixed the Nailhead. He builds stuff like I do and he said he built 2 425's in the last year. The cost was right at 10 grand built with all forged innerds. Forged Pistons from CE ran just north of $1200. I'm sure I could get there with a stock rebuild but I can't see myself putting together a stocker.

I guess I see why I always revert back to the old trusted 283's and 327's.

    You're a ray of sunshine aren't you?

I don't get it, I usually clash with the street roddy dudes. And I end it with 'your car sucks'. So far as I can tell, your car doesn't suck. So what gives? You bringin the old hamb back?

more like it ran on all eight, but was running a old verticle clapper box shaper in one of the cylinders , so he had to be making some power , one of our BBC s did the same thing , but you could hear the screetchign of the pin ( tool steel) on the wall . a rookie said it was a headgasket leak ( I could have only wished it was ) it took about 1 minute to machine the wall to the water

Picture 028.jpg You folk keep derailing the OP w/'stuff'. It is ego & rude after a point. A W engine may be option too.

Sheeez' ..... too bad you can't find something like this locally to play with. Preferably below 10 k too ! Prolly' not. Be fun trading the engine back and forth ....

405 HP '63 421 Super Duty, the real thing.

These were a true 500 HP factory engine with 12:1 compression.

  22. Yep.....like picking the most beautiful woman in the world or your favorite dish. These are all winners. I think the car /engine combo is important too like that nail head in a 40' Ford. If I ever get one I'll run it with the hood off a lot. One of the prettiest firewalls ever. I remember a post a couple of years ago with an Offy in a little Ford roadster. Can't imagine what that would have sounded and looked like on the street!

13:1 compression 410 HP '63 421 Super Duty, topped by a very rare factory 'bathtub' tunnel ram intake. This tunnel ram intake predates any of the aftermarket tunnel rams, Pontiac engineering at its best.

I'd imagine it's making more than just a bit over 500 HP.

  24. LOL I like 427s and I really don't care who has wrapped the cast iron around the inches. ;)

Something else I really like is a 396" cross bolted Ford. See if you can figure that one out. LOL :D :D :D

No figuring involved, destroked 427 ford, '67 NASCAR season. Not 100% certain, but going by memory the 427's had run single 4, the smaller motors were permitted to run the 2x4?

The sbc is the engine that finally de-throned the flat-head once and for all, and anyone who tries to argue that case is just a fool.
If you love fords, then post away. But do it without bashing the chevy, or anything else. Hell, I'll tell you straight, I have little use for flatheads, I just CANNOT get excited about spending 5K to build a motor that spews out a whopping 200hp. But I recognize and respect the place it has in our history, thats why I added it in my first post on this thread. As has been said, the title of the thread is "What do you think is the coolest Hot Rod engine" not " Heres a thread to spew your uninformed brand biases".

There was a guy in the antique engine club that built a little car with 6 Maytag model 92s in it! He used to drive it around the meets.
