Recently, I purchased a vintage sand buggy powered by a 1951 8BA engine couple to the 1939 transmission. The builder went to great lengths by shortening the torque tube and driveline to fit the shortened Model A ch***is. I'd like to keep this bit of nostalgia. The 8BA is not rebuildable and replacements are really spend, so my thought is to replace the engine with a Y-block from the mid-50s to keep everything period correct. So here is the question ... I've located a Y-block to "early Ford transmission" adapter but the fitment details state to 1948, which is when Ford stopped using the 1939 transmission in automobiles. Did the bolt pattern change, or anything else for that matter, that this adapter would not work on this transmission? Thanks!! =====
Just to clarify, the "1939" transmission was used on trucks until 1953. In 1949, cars started using the T86. The question, I suppose, is did the bolt pattern of the "1939" transmission change for trucks in 1949? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just put all the pieces together. Vanpelt's site says the 1939 transmission used on pickup trucks from 1942 to 1952 was open driveline. As mine is closed, it must be the 1948 and earlier automobile closed driveline. Thanks for looking and the answer!! ===== Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
