First, find an autoplan agent who's done this before, dumb looks just get you a lot of frustration, believe me.
Second, have your car weighed, anywhere you like, get a printout. Mine was done at my local landfill.
Third, you need, the application for a B.C. ***igned vehicle identification number or vin reinstatement and a cheque to icbc for twenty five bucks. Form number mv 1325.
DO NOT tick off the ubuilt category if you have a steel bodied car.
    DO tick off modified/modified collector.
    Tick off, vehicle is normal.
Support do***ents attached box, tick off mv 1484 stat dec and bill of sale.
fill in the blanks for designated inspection facility or have them do it.

Next, the stat dec form, called the Unregistered vehicles and missing signatures form.
This is the form you declare where the car-parts came from, goes to a notary or service B.C. outlet, in my case it was the rcmp, swear it's true, get the official seal stamped on it.

Last, an application to register a modified motor vehicle
fill in the blanks. Present this to your agent, now you wait, icbc will send you a letter telling you the vin tag has been sent to the inspection facility, now for the inspection.
Once done, they will install the tag on the a pillar, back to icbc agent to complete the paperwork process, done.
Mine is now registered as a 1927 ford t modified.
I'm now able to qualify for the modified collector plate, life is good. The process can take a couple weeks, be patient because it doesn't cost FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS.
If you make the mistake of going with the ubuilt category, you'll end up with a 2016 vehicle, which you don't want.
MAKE SURE you find an agent who knows this stuff, some don't, so...shop around, it'll make your life simpler.
    LeRoy.

Jethro, head over to Barriere, go to interior savings, autoplan, ask for Holly Fenrick, tell her LeRoy sent you, believe me it's worth the drive. I drive three hours to see her, she used to be in Princeton, she's in Barriere now.

Wonder how it would work with a car previously registered in another province when you move to BC ?
    Anyone know ?

If you bring it up you'll open a can of worms. You'll have go through the process in the province you got the car in first then do some sort of out of province inspection to get it registered in BC. Just to be clear I have not done it myself but that is what I was told by my local agent. Your results my vary.

Good post. I've done this 3 times over the years. I'm on pins and needles every time until I get a plate. The last one I did was completed last week. For the vehicle weight I was able to Google it at the agents office and showed them the Wikipedia page on my phone for the car. They were satisfied with that. I was also required to give the insurance agent the noterized declaration at the time I insured it. It's a pain in the **** doing all of this but worth it.

One thing that bugs me about this process is it only works if your car is done and ready to go. There's nothing I know about that you can do if you're in the middle of building a car. It's just a bunch of parts to them. It would be nice to have some kind of insurance on a project or even just a registration incase it were to get stolen.

Tip.. if you're declaring that the car is using an engine out of another car you will need to prove where it came from and they will ask for a receipt. I replaced a toasted banger with a flathead V8 so I got asked for this.

    Good advice.

With an already vin numbered and running driving car, an out of province inspection should be all that's required. I think.
At least that's the way it is here.

I have had an Alberta VIN number ***igned to my RPU even though it is still under construction.
I had that done for when I hauled it to Rod Tops in Michigan last summer, I also have it insured which required an appraisal. Had to do all that to haul it across the border and for travelling.
In order to do that I had to show all the receipts for origin of the parts.

So, it is possible to have an under construction car insured.

Now that I have the VIN number and insurance, another appraisal on completion and a safety inspection and I can get a plate.

Trollst, thanks for the tip. I'm half way between Kamloops and Barrire....just need to drive the other direction. Thanks again!

  14. Good advice. But milage may vary. Been down this road many times. Problem is every Autoplan agent is different. And most don't know how to do this stuff. I usually walk them through it.
On a side note. I've never had a car weighed. As mentioned. ...I just Google it.
