Story behind this Detroit car?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by LaGrasta, Mar 6, 2006.

  1. Please tell me this isn't a glass body. The faux paint is a bit much but damn I love the stance and that grille and light combo. I wonder how long till I'd get pull over driving that. Really sweet design.

The sign on it at the show said all steel. It really is a neat car. Great proportions.

It looks like what's left of a '37 chevy. Grill, hood cowl.

Originally,it was a Coupe, eventually it became a drag car that someone removed the lid, gutted, and "welded" the doors closed.

The hood is Model A,the side panels and grill opening are '37(?) Chevy,
and the body is 31 Ford. All metal finished.

All new chassis and running gear.

Not finished, but he's already been invited to several
    high profile west coast shows.

We spent some time talking to Jason, who built the car,
    and admiring all the details.

I'll see if I can post some pics later.

One of the Rod magazines had a article recently = "so all you have is a ratty 4 door and you want a rod" This is identical to one of the concept drawings in the article. And bitchin' in the 3D world

I think Gary Constable (aka Mutant)
was sharing the booth space with Jason.

I actually LIKE the paint; doesn't look 'patinaed' or whatever but sorta like a well worn pair of oxblood boots :D

  19. man awsome looking car,but the paint has to go.

  20. The fake patina was so gay I couldn't bring myself to go look at it!

But then Plowboy asked me if I had seen it, and proceded to tell me how cool the chassis was. So sunday I took the time to have a look.

Man! what a sweet ride. I still can't stand the stupid paint? job. But the engineering on the car is real nice.

Unkl Ian's pic show what you could see, and it was nice. I do think the nose and hood were what was left of a one piece glass front end from a 37 chev but it looked good on the car.

Guess in the future I shouldn't be so quick to judge a book by it's cover:D

paint ruins it for me too. Killer proportions, very creative car, I like the layout a lot. Shiny black would do wonders for that car.

  22. Yeah, I guess I'll jump in too. I posted the damn thread so yes, I really dig the car. With that said, the paint is way too obvious, the pointed bolts are much too "wanna-be-rat-rod" and the dog collar straps are a dead give away. Is God in the details? Not always, but here the details give it away where otherwise it would have been authentic.
It's like having a Mooneyes license plate frame on a car without any Mooneyes parts.

  23. The shape is awesome. Reminds me of some of the way-cool tractor front-end concept sketches that were circulating on here two or three months ago.

It's great to see that there is still room to be creative in hot rod design after all of these decades of experimentation.
