    hi
the bolts that hold the arms of the hood hinges dont seem to be the right ones as they are much smaller dia than the holes on the arms and they only work if loose which allows the hood to move about a lot when open and im looking on the internet and the bolts i can find listed only go up to 53 so did they change something and can anybody tell me how the hinge arms bolts work ( shims spacers ) ???

the link doesnt work but they do look like the bolts that i have . so when i open the hood and then tighten them bolts it locks the hood in that position ist there a shim or bush between those bolts and the arms of the hinge and the hood ?

hmm the ones showing at macs are shoulder bolts with lockwire holes and not the ones in your picture but the shoulder ones make sense so must use shims

You need the special shoulder bolts.

The bolts that I took out of my '55 hood look just like the ones that I posted.

I think you are incorrect, the '55 ford uses the bolts that I posted above.

If you have the Ford Parts Manual CD-ROM that danman has hooked members up with there is a real good illustration how the bolts are installed,I can't scan it for you my new Operating System and printer /scanner are not playing nice with each other.

No shim they use spring washers that go over the shoulder for tension purposes. Hardware store should have them. Dennis Carpenter has the bolts and probably the spring washers. 54 is the same as 52/53.

they also call them wave washers.the proper bolts are drilled for a wire to keep them from loosening.when you tighten the proper bolts the shoulder will not allow over tightening
