Yes, Canadian Pontiacs are skinned over Chev frames. Whatever engine/ trany was available in the Chev was also used in the our Pontiacs. Have to add that the base engine used was the 261 6 cyl.
This is a Canadian made, Chevrolet Model 150! Their version of the 150 was a little nicer than ours; stainless around windshield and backlight, and side trim that looked like our 210 Handyman wagons had. Very nice car. I am Bjutch/56sedandelivery.
I have to also add that our Pontiacs were not classified in NHRA books as they only listed cars made in the USA. We ran them as Chevy's up here. The first Canadian Pontiac accepted by NHRA was the Pro Stock Astra(CDN brother to the Vega) of Burt Strous(SP). Also our Acadians(Chevy II) was not listed either. Only in Canada you say!!
Ok since we are on Canadian cars here are a couple Mopars from Sanair Joe Kenny "Trick Tank" F/SA Doug Miller C/SA

Loudbang I think that the unknown 55 Q/S car is the same sedan delivery in a few posts above that was driven by Randy Burch and sponsored by Park Lane Motors (Sarnia, Ontario). I believe that the "unknown" car was owned by Cal Pon of Toronto, Ontario. Always a very clean race car. Thanks.
That photo of Ronnie Evans' Wildfire came out of his personal photo album. That car and the Zorro car are the SAME car. Ronnie sold his first Wildfire when he left for the Army in '65 and bought the Zorro later. The Ka-boob-ee car was also involved. The later photo of the Whatchamacallit '55 is also from Ronnie's album. It shows him holding the trophy. He was the driver responsible for the win. Here's the whole story: Ronnie Evans began racing this 409 ’62 in ’62. It was his first “Wildfire”. He raced it until ’65 when he was drafted. Upon his (safe) release and return to home in Sept ’67 he continued to race it for the rest of the ’67 season then in ’68 he put it back on the street with the same race motor in it. (1st wildfire) At the same time, Ed Showalter was racing the Zorro 409 car and blew the motor in ’68. Through Roger Sinistri and a fellow who worked at the Grove, they bought the Wildfire car from Ronnie “presumably” for the driveline to repair the Zorro. Ed ended up with the car. Ronnie later noticed it sitting alongside a gas station with the hood off and high in the front. He recognized it as his old Wildfire and kicks himself to this day for not getting it back. Supposedly, it went to NY. Never heard of again. (Zorro car) Ed continued racing the Zorro until he quit in ’69 and sold the car to a kid (name unknown) who painted it white with black stripes on the roof and named it Ka-Boob-EE. It was raced briefly, then sold to another kid (name unknown) who also raced it briefly without much success. Roger contacted Ronnie in ’69 and asked him if he’d be interested in buying the old Zorro car (currently the Ka-Boob-EE). A deal was made and Ronnie completely gutted the car and started from scratch, using his own “creative” talents. (Kaboobee) Repainted red, white & blue, this became the 2nd Wildfire car which he ran for 2 years. He sold the ’62 to his (soon to be son-in-law) in ’71 for street use after changing the motor and repainting it. At a traffic light one day, a jeep plowed into the back of it and crushed it up to the doors. The car was totaled. (2nd Wildfire) Meanwhile, in ‘71 Ronnie was wrenching, tuning and driving the Watchamacallit ’55 of Rich Lairson and Paul Knowl, (sp) which held the record and he won the Q/S class at Indy with it for them. (Ronnie’s name never appeared on the car or in the stats!). So that’s the story of the beginning and end of 3 cars in one. (and a little more trivia) He was a close friend. RIP Ronnie. Verne
That is an awesome story. I got that photo from a folki site of 55 chevies. Thanks for filling in the blanks. RIP Ronnie
