Just saw in the paper today .... http://www.latimes.com/news/local/l...6,1,590086.story?coll=la-headlines-california
Illegal drag racing is part of our heritage. But now we have drag strips, where we can race under controled conditions;and even have an ambulance waiting, just in case. There is a line between Brave and Stupid.
I call bullshit....The LA river and all the aquaducts are all full of water and have been for a few months...
...sorry...been on today already... look above the title and see the date...Times Past 1955...you're 51 years too late.
funny!!! still. It's how us broke f's built our rides. Don't anyone on here imply they haven't illegally raced. yeah I'm bored....
I remember back in 1950 whem I was going to Clovis high we had noon time drags. One noon race I was going to drag a 1939 Chev with a wayne setup. I was running a 4 carbed, full house flat head, mind you I was 15 years old. Word got around school and a big crowd gather out on herndon ave. The Chey beat me it had too much bottom end and we didn,t go far enough for me to get wound up. Anyhow Hwy patrol showed up. Next day entire school had to go to the auditorium for a safety program put on by the Hwy patrol. Couldn't drive my car to school for one month. Them were good old days. Gary
Cool historical story! I've only seen that kind or racing in the movies or rock videos. For me it was Hiawatha Avenue in south Minneapolis back in the mid 80s -- racing my S10 4x4 against a buddy's RX7. (I always lost and was hoping to someday race him in the snow.) Here's the article, just in case they pull that "you must register" nonsense: TIMES PAST: MARCH 6, 1955 Hot Rodders Up the Creek in L.A. River March, 6 2006 Los Angeles police in patrol cars and on motorcycles chased down and rounded up more than 150 ducktailed rebels who were illegally drag racing on the paved bed of the Los Angeles River between 4th and 6th streets east of downtown. In all, 90 souped-up jalopies had been in the riverbed, but 30 of them zoomed off before the drivers were caught. .
In the mid sixties here in New Zealand, it was easy to outrun the cops with a warm flattie.... not that I ever did .....
Been there done that, it was a blast in the day. We used to scatter like chickens when the law showed up. they could only catch a few.
I didn't Neat old story though! For the other newbies out there: duck·tail - A hairstyle in which the hair is swept back at the sides to meet in an upturned point in back.
