    Doesn't sound to me like he did anything at all. He bought it. Sounds like it wasn't in good tune, but ran ok once warmed up. He drove it a bit, and it got worse.

    Start with the basics. Compression test, spark, timing, vacuum leak, plugged filter(s) or old gas. Is it an HEI, points, or Pertronix? Are the wires, cap and rotor in good condition? Is it wired correctly? Is it running rich, or lean? Is the choke working correctly?

    David,
    You are right, he does not give the scenario or the engine configuration. Then he goes off rebuilding a carb that may not need rebuilding.

    Sorry guys I didn't realize this thread went to a second page. The car is running OK after taking the carb apart for the second time now, but the adjusting screws are out further than normal. I will need to replace any fuel line as I feel one is falling apart on the inside and is sending small pieces of black particles to the see through inline filter. I think that was the main cause of the car not running correct.
