Hey guys, I was out and about today in a county north of me and saw a couple of old cars and stopped in to check on them. After stopping I found that this guy has a ton of old cars and trucks, I am supposed to go back next weekend so he can give me some prices on them trucks and cars. The cars included (5) 1948-1951 F-1's, (1) 1953 ford truck, (3) 1960 ford trucks (1)1964 fairlane 4 dr, (1) 1962 falcon 4dr, (1) 1947 International Truck, and some other junk, but in a barn that is falling down I was looking in through the sides and saw a bike. I drug it out thinking it might be a schwinn like an orange crate but it had a tag on the front of them stem that said GOODYEAR. I have never seen one of these before. are they of any value? My brother had is camra phone but he didn't get one of the bike, as soon as he e-mails these pics of the cars I am going to post them, and i will take one of the bike next week. If any of you guys can help please do so. thanks .....Jeremy
Goodyear rebadged bikes made by other companys like Schwinn or Columbia , not sure which , if it is a boys bike and has a fake gastank and 26 inch tires on it its worth something , if it is from the 60s or so like a crate bike not so much.
It is a 20" and has a front fork set up like a real motorcycle, had the two tubes that run up to the bottom of the handle bars.... Thanks
If it's a banana seat type of bike, witht he forks you are describing, it's probably a re-badged Columbia Playbike. If it's in mint shape, and it's a shifter bike, it's probably worth 2-300 bucks, and less depending on how bad. Columbia and and Murray rebadged bikes for Goodyear, Firestone, Sears, Otasco and many others....They are collectible, but will never bring anything near what a mint Schwinn does. I'd like to see a picture of it, I dig muscle bikes.
Hey thanks again,. It is not in great shape but good enough shape that someone could make a nice bike out of. It does have a banana seat but it does not have a shifter. I will get a picture of it next week and send it to you or post it. Thanks
If Geocities will let me link to it, here's a Playbike...see if these are the same kind of forks. They are kind of hard to come by.
Yeah, musclebikes do that. Check out this picture from another website...this'll really make you think. These are sears screamers, one of my favorites. I have a '69 Huffy rail that I'm working on.
Here is a Goodyear from the 40s or 50s (I think), it is a "Hi-Way Patrol". any Ideas as to what it is worth?....................thanks, Fred
I'm not up on my balloon tire bikes but... If you go to Ebay under collectibles-transportation-bicycles and run a search under completed items for Goodyear, you'll usually find a few. I've seen them on there. Balloon tire bikes bring good money if they are the right ones, especially old tank bikes. One thing about yours that will not be in your favor is that it is a girl's bike. Generally these do not bring as much. In the past, we've had a few collectors post, Tman, I think, and somebody else had a HUGE stash of balloon tire bikes.
Hemi is right on, even though that is a cool bike and looks pretty complete , it is only gonna bring a couple hundred at best , cuz its a girls bike , they are normally striped for parts , but it would be a shame , find a girl who will love it . It was built in the 50s by Columbia for Good Year and parts are still around . I wouldn't change it much , new tires and a lube , and find a good home for it . Never was a big muscle bike fan , but I dig the pics , I have a pretty good collection of kids Xmas morning pics, you gotta love em.
here,s pic of my sons schwinn and one i found in a junkyard 20 years ago, anybody know what mine is? it was made in indiana
Not exactly sure on the specifics of your copper one, but those truss forks will easily clear a hundred bucks on Ebay. Poke around on the bag and see what you can find. There's also some help at www.oldroads.com if you get board. They have a few bicycle message boards. I'm pretty sure it was Tinbender, I think, with all of the balloon tire bikes....
Lone Wolf, your gold colored bike is made by the "Evans" company, successors to the Colson Corporations bicycle division. It is a late 50's model.. one of the early middle-weights, it is most likley the "Olympic" model. I have a blue girls bike that matches it, and have had other bikes by the Evans company. This bike is certainly worth saving. They are not super rare, but have a very cool design. You can find fenders and stuff on eBay, or buy a junky girls bike for the parts. Your Schwinn looks like it may have been a Phantom, because of the chrome on the tank. It has some aftermarket fenders on it though. You can see pictures of more Evans bikes at my website... www.nostalgic.net. DS
