I got my 40 Plymouth with a Mustang II front. and the SBC with the Th350. I made up a set of headers for it but, #5 is too close to the plug. I am to the point where I want to just take them off and go to a set of Ram horns. My question is this, can someone measure their manifolds and see how far out and down they go? I need to measure my stuff to ensure I dont have steering shaft issues.

There is a almost ' RamHorn ' that gives a little more room .......around in the lower area.....for the steering shaft......It ttucks in closer and rolls back a little. I always run them on my 32's........

    :)

  3. are you running the Accel #276S shorty header plugs?

I suggest you Look for the ramhorns with the CENTER dump rather than those with the dump on the back, near the firewall; The center dump versions usually clear steering, motor mounts, etc; and give you considerably more clearance to work with all the way around. Most early 283 & 327's had the center dump ramhorns. Good Luck!

I may be mistaken, but I think the left side Ram's Horn with the center dump bent to the rear is a late '60s pickup truck manifold. They have a thin spot in the casting and are easily broken, so they have become scarcer than most other Ram's Horn varieties. When you find one at a swap meet they are three times as expensive as the more common varieties.

But they do help with steering clearance problems!

  6. this ram horn here sticks out 3-1/4" from the block , and extends down 4" from the mounting holes

plenty enuff room on a `32 if you angle the headpipe a little

I've never seen a ramhorn with a rear dump. How about posting a picture of one? Or are you referring to a regular exaust manifold as a ramhorn?

the Tilt back manifolds, centerdump ramshorn are 67-72chevy truck. the Passenger side manifold came on Differnt vehicles, the DRIVERS side one is the one that is hard to find.

Yes, in the bend there is a thin spot so finding good ones is a issue. BUT if you get desperate, LMC reprodices them, at a price of about 250$ each i think.

One of the speed secrets of the 60s-70s was to use the pass. side exhaust manifold from a 67-72 Chevy truck on the drivers side of a SBC equiped 35-40 Ford with the stock or GM steering box. Chevy II V8 manifolds are very similar but usually more pricey. It lets you run the exhaust pipe forward slightly and then loop around and under the steering box. It makes a clean installation.

So you can get ram horns that angle forward, drop straight down or angle back. Usually 4" of clearance between the manifold flange and the obstruction is enough room for a good custom exhaust guy to get the exhaust pipe to clear. You can use the right side straight manifold that was designed for a heat riser. It has a flat surface made for a flat gasket in stead of the donut recess. Replace the studs with bolts and the exhaust pipe can be welded at an angle to a 3 bolt flat flange with a flat gasket. This requires a lot less room to duck around any obstruction.

has anyone used the ram's horns sold by speedway? They resemble y-block rams hornsand supposedly flow much better than stock while being a center dump design at the same time.

    ? ? ?
They are fairly common around here......and I can always find them at the swap meet.$15 to $20 dollars each..... I have 4 or 5 now in stock.....and have NEVER had one break. Most all my 32 Ford buddies use them .....

I guess I better get a few more come April at the Charlotte AutoFair...:D

We sell new aftermarket center dumps for $105.00 each. Just put 2 on the wifes vette after de-smoging it.

  13. I'd like to know too?

I have a set of '65 Vette Rams, but like the look of the Speedway set.

  14. How about the look of these SBC headers?

Think they would create more problems than solving them.

I could make those work...with a little grinding...and cut that goofy looking generator mount off. Would probably have to ditch those bolt-on tube parts altogether and fabricate something, but yeah, they'd work. I'll give you $50 for them.

I have about 3 inches out from the block to the steering arm. Yes I am using the shorty headers. But I made the headers wrong, And they sit too far down. I had the go to taller tires to keep them from dragging. I want to go back down.

I posted some pics, sorry about the size. I am still new here.

Hey Duece, How far from the bolt hole by #5 to the flange?

I kinda wish someone with a set, (that lived close to me) would just let me try and see if they fit.

    Sorry about the long post
