Technical Gas line fitting size

Hello all. I ordered my new tank from chevsofthe40s and it looks like the spitting image of the original. The only difference is size of the female fitting where the gas line screws into. The new tanks is considerably larger. The original tank had an adapter fitting to make it larger that the line screwes into but I don't know the size of the fuel line fittings. The car is at a hobby shop and I can't get to it. Would anyone know the size of the original fuel line fittings so I can buy adapter before going over there only to head back?

 

might help if you mention what year of Chevy you have....or should we ***ume that it's a 51 or 52 by looking at your avatar?

 

The tank came with a reducer that makes it a 5/16s, but wondering if the original fuel line fittings are 5/16s. I can't get to the car right now

Hi, I am just a normal guy...mostly...I started playing with cars when I was around 13, overhauled my first engine at age 14 with the help of articles in Hot Rod magazine and shop manuals. I worked on the neighbors cars for spending money, including a few engine and transmission overhauls. Went to engineering school, and at the time I had a part time job at a junkyard, then at a transmission shop. I worked as an engineer for the Army on communications systems for several years, then got tired of the ins***utional BS and quit, and opened up a car repair shop. I worked at it full time for several years, then less and less as I moved the shop to home, and became a full time home maker dad (which is a really neat gig, if you can get it).

Basically, I read a lot.

Not familiar with that car in particular, but the "adapter" you're talking about might just be a pipe thread to IFF fitting. Usually 1/4" pipe into the tank, and probably 5/16 flare out.

 

that's pretty likely. Sure is hard to get parts when you can't see what it is you're working on.
