Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this so please move if not. Four of us are travelling to Nashville from England to the Nashville Boogie event in May and we will be touring around a bit whilst we are there for two weeks, so my question is can anybody recommend any places of interest like Rod shops, historical landmarks you guys know the sort of thing I mean im sure. we will be travelling through several states p***ing through Atlanta, Chattanooga, Memphis, then going south down to New Orleans and making our way back up to Atlanta to fly home. So any suggestions will be greatly received. Many thanks Jeremy
In Louisianna make sure you catch some Cajun music, and EAT A LOT! You gonna enjoy dat, I gar-on-tee!
Corvette museum is excellent about 45 minutes from Nashville in Bowling Green, KY. Well worth a visit, the plant tour is pretty cool too.
If you arrive a week early (May 6-8), you can come to the Blue Suede Cruise in Tupelo, MS. There are usually around 800+ cars that show up- some HAMB friendly, some not. Tupelo is also the birthplace of Elvis so you can visit the birthplace if you like. Tupelo also has the largest auto museum east of the Mississippi River- some very cool old cars on display there. BTW- I will be at the Blue Suede Cruise and hope to make the Nashville Boogie weekend as well.
In Memphis, EAT BBQ!! Ribs at Rendezvous in alley downtown. Pulled pork at Corky's out on Poplar. In Atlanta go to the world's largest drive in restaurant, The Varsity for onion rings and whatever else you want. In New Orleans get oysters on half at the Royal Street Oyster House and then move to dinner at K-Pauls Louisiana Restaurant. Hot rod places? I don't know, I like to eat!
Totally in agreement!! Down south is a whole new experience- great people, tons of hot rods, beautiful country , music that's indigenous to the location ( Cajun, bluegr***, blues, Dixieland, ROCK AND ROLL) and FOOD!! Check in with the local Chamber of Commerce or a tourist guide place when you stop for the night- they'll have TONS of info ( or research in advance and make up an itinerary) YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE A BALL, DADDIO! (I wanna go too!)
Tour down Hwy 61 south from Memphis, have lunch at Ground Zero in Clarksdale, Ms, then on down through Vicksburg, Natchez, Baton Rouge into New Orleans. Lots of places to eat in N.O. For local and cheap early and mid day try the Marjorie's Commerce on Camp at Gravier or for a little Cajun feel try Mulates on Julia at Convention center blvd. Stay away from the tourist spots, over priced and average food and drink. Unless absolutely necessary, stay off the interstates and enjoy the feel of the south, you won't be disappointed.
Lane Motor Museum in Nashville : http://www.lanemotormuseum.org/?gcl...dx0TNaErqzIx3VP_hDytcqDAiS9l0eN4i5RoClKrw_wcB Nashville Goodguys event is going on the same weekend as Nashville Boogie: https://www.good-guys.com/nvn-2016?...PscrVi9X1W6weokf9jevFBoCsQfw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
You bring up Goodguys. Are there our style of cars attending or is mostly muscle and easter egg rods? Never been so am trying to learn, not start a fight.
Coker Tires in Chattanooga has a very cool museum. The music and food in Nashville are amazing - just stroll a few blocks around the original Grand ol Opre downtown, and have a ball. Close by also is the Country Music Hall of Fame, worth a visit.
Plan on staying the night at the Chattanooga choo choo... It's a hotel that consists of old train cars. It's convenient to coker and honest Charlie's just a few blocks away. Chattanooga runs a free electric bus from the choo choo to downtown where there's alot of neat stuff. Plan to spend a day at least in Chattanooga. Atlanta has one if the world's largest aquariums. Than head up to Nashville, take a walk around inside the opry land hotel. The restaurants and hotels in that area are tourist oriented and way over priced. But it costs nothing to walk around. There's alot if neat stuff in Nashville also. I lived there for a few years.
