New the this board I've got a stock 1951 Chevy 2 door duluxe coupe. Looking for the best bolt in kit to install a IFS in it. Want one that lowers the front of the car and comes with disc brakes. Any advise would be great! Also looking for a place here in N.E. Georiga to get my bumpers rechromed at? Thanks Jim __________________
Do a search on it, there are tons of posts on the subject. I recommend Ch***is Engineering because I used their M2 on my '50 Chevy and love it. Good luck and welcome. Oh yeah, check out 50chevy.com if you haven't already.
I think ch***is engineering is the ONLy company that makes a bolt in.. (although its abit more that that) their stuff is good.. I am mounting the third ch***is engineering front end I have done soon. good luck sawzall
RBS auto also makes a bolt in. More people like the ch***is engineering kit. Here are some links to the installs pics etc http://50chevy.com/ifs.html#links
If you really want a street rod front end then I agree that ch***is engineering is your best bet, they have some real good stuff, if not just run your juice fronts and cut the springs like the rat rod guys do
OK thanks for the info! Looks like I can get everything to do the job right for about $1,900 KUSTOM72 what do you mean by "run your juice fronts" ??
Fast Times Rods out of Dunkirk ,NY. Call em up and ask for Pete. Awsome to deal with. Makes alot of his own stuff and isn't to busy to help you out and guide you. Tell em I sent ya. http://www.fasttimesrods.com/
Hey Jimmy, as far as the bumper rechroming goes, I used to use Gaines Bumper Exchange but damn....that was like 12 years ago. Just cruise over to Robinsons Body Shop on Buford Hwy and ask Robby who he uses, he won't use anybody that does **** work.
Will I got a wide hair today and ended up removing the front coils. got the ole' 4"grinder out and cut 1 1/4 wrap of the coils off. "Why 1 1/4 wrap"? Because I mis-maked the first one. Oh well! No big deal! I hope? Will add some new shocks while it's apart too. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get it all back together by the weekend. Will keep y'all posted. As for rechroming Robby told me of a coupe different placing that he used to use. thanks for the advice! Robby's a pretty good guy!
OK got the front end back together today. Looks great! Went inner lip of the front fender wheel well went from the orginal height of 27" to Bad*** looking 25.5". The run drives just a good as it did before I cut the springs. COOOOL! I'm still running the stock G78-15 Wide White wall tires, Which are 28" tall. Planning on adding a set of Billet Wheels with 215/70's (25.5 inch's tall) on the front which should bring it down another 1"-1 1/2"
Tudor and Pbrmeasap know a good chromer around here. I think his shop is in decatur are something like that.
