Nice, solid find. Dig the skirts and floor mats.
I don't recall those wood bead seat mats being around in the 80's, so maybe it was driven past 1990-well into the 90's

Any old registration tag info with it?

    Is that the original paint?

I'd lower it 4 inches, (so it sits where it does now with flat tires).

I'd cruise it with Grandpa's hat on the package tray too.

If you're not on it already, I suggest hooking up with the "52-59 Ford Social Forum" on the HAMB.

    Question;
Did all 1959 Fords have a padded dash?
This one has a bad crack. Curious.

They were an extra cost option on my dad's '61 when he bought it new, so I'd put money on the padded dash being an option in '59

  9. If it was built at the Atlanta assembly plant, my father leaded the seams on it.

  10. The padded dash was optional. Most had a painted steel dash.

How cool. If it was built in Detroit, my Dad green flagged it through final assembly inspection.

I recall him telling me Ford had a helluva problem with the 59 or 60 trunks not sealing water tight and the engineers had him close himself in the trunk of several different cars with a flashlight to look for the leak area while they gave it a run through the water spray routine.

59f.jpg My pink and white 59 has the same Galaxie and Fairlane 500 but I drive a Custom 300. Funny story, I have two 59s and a friend has one. We were talking and some guy came up and said, "You dont see those every day." We started laughing because actually we do.

Fairlane 500 Galaxie would be absolutely top of the line Ford in 1959. No doubt it came with all the luxury extras like padded dash, deluxe upholstery, and accessories as standard equpment that were extra cost options on lesser models.

A local guy restored one of those, a 59 2 door hardtop, in the seventies. He painted it bronze with a black vinyl top. I never liked the looks of it. About 20 years later he sold it and the new owner repainted it red and white, a factory available 2 tone, using the original colors. It looked a million times better. I have never seen a car more changed in appearance by a simple paint job/

^^^ My pink and white Galaxie/Fairlane 500 has a Factory radio delete. It was a one owner car with 52,000 miles and a 1969 inspection sticker

They had relatively high production numbers. The Custom 4 and 2-door production totals were about a 1/2 million. Fairlanes produced were 175,000. Galaxies were around 460,000, wagons were around 250,000.

Cars indigenous to the north east were consumed by rust unless they were protected and not used in winter months.

Most non Floriduh residents don't realize how harsh this climates can be, on vintage tin. Had this car been INSIDE a garage, may have been trashed by rodents, bugs and mold.
OUTSIDE with no cover, completely rusted through, from the drip rails down

Florida is rough on cars. I laugh when they say "Florida car" . Like its something to brag about.
Almost constant humidity, brutal sun, rodents galore........and the beach. Which almost every Florida car has been on the beach or even in the water.
Look at vintage pics of Daytona.

Cars sitting out in the NE are exposed to extreme hot and cold cycles. Moisture builds up in closed up cars and eventually rots out all the fabrics and rust has a place to start. Chrome strips hold dirt that gets blown in and holds moisture, perfect rust traps. I bought an OT Mustang locally years back, it was exposed to the salt air for only a few years. I had to get a new master for it, also a power booster and rebuild the froze up calipers.

Basically the same without the cold, but we have moisture and extreme heat. So constant humidity in the vehicle . Plus we have torrential rain at times so if it's sitting outside and the seals are bad, there goes your rockers and floors.

I'd estimate that my car sat for 15-20 years out west. It was born in California, I bought it out of Denver. Probably stored inside or under something outside. The only rot is limited to the front of the hood. The upholstery has some sun damage to it. I saw no evidence of water in the car, it was missing the side glass and the trunk seal was toast.

Sean, what a crazy nite, trying to get that off the rollback. 4 flat tires do not roll downhill. Too bad the soap didn't work. Funny what Brian said
    "Soap and jerk" :p;)

thanks for the clarification of the difference in the Fairlane 500 and Fairlane 500 galaxie. I believe the fairlane 500 was produced in a 2 door hardtop (no post). I have been anxious to find a picture of one of these. But have had no luck on the internet. Can you conjure up an example of a 59 2 door Failane 500, post or no post?
