Planning a build and like the idea of extending the door to get kids into the rear but never seen it done.

Anyone have details on one done ?

    Thanks in advance

Ya gonna do it on just one side, like a Pacer?

  4. They were already longer than coupe doors for that exact reason.

  5. I'd rather have a 4 door. I could see it being a problem in narrow. parking stalls and not getting enough room to open a long door.

Sedans not a option I gotta use what I've got.

I was thinking back to the start of the arch on both sides
Or suicide as getting kids in and out is going to be a PIA in an A

  7. I totally get that...definitely gotta use what ya got.... Just brainstorming here... But what about an extra short door that is suicide style like on a extended cab pickup or a honda element. That can only be opened once the main door is open. So it gets you the big opening you are after, but still have the room for tight situations.

I see your need, but I think it would be something to draw up in scale and stare at for a while. My concern is will the windows look odd when the door window grows that much longer than the quarter window. It's almost like creating the window proportion of a Vicky, without the bustle moved forward, and whether the proportions become odd.

    Interesting idea . . . .

Couldn't help but think of this car. It was a 2014 Ridler Great 8 car.

There was/is a Canadian model A Tudor that had a 3rd door (rear built in) on the passengers side for kids.
I saw a pic years ago but not sure where it was now.
It kind of opened out suicide style.
From memory it ran an all aluminium chassis and Corvette front and rear suspension.
Maybe some one on here may know it!!!

We have a few A tudors and can get kids in and out no trouble. Depends if you are chopping or channeling it. The blue one is stock height with Hillman Hunter bucket seats that fold forward from the front ,like original A ones, on a frame I made to do that. Has been our family car since 1979 and at one stage had a child seat either side in the rear and our older child would sit in between. The black channelled one has original Tudor front seats that the backs folds forward then the whole thing folds forward from the front.....heaps of room to get in and out. The chopped green one is a latter (8yrs ago) build and has sliding bucket seats.....a little harder to get in, but doable. IMHO lengthing the doors by more than 6" would look a bit ugly. Maybe a small third door could work, but suicide doors and kids worry me......they are pretty safe in the back of a tudor with no doors though.

I hope your builds go faster than mine or your kids will be grown before the car is done. We have a tudor and have put kids in it years back. It is a long ways back there to the rear seat but doable with the front passenger seat flipped forward. No problem now since the kids have more or less grown up and are gone.

Kids grow up fast....hot rod builds sometimes take longer than you think!

  15. Yeah.....when my son was young I bought a 2 door sedan project for some extra passenger room. He's in college now and I still haven't got the sedan finished....

Youngest is 3 so we're still up for double booster seats for a few more years.

It's all ideas to make it easier for the cook to want to turn the tyres and comfy for all.
