Ok I know some of yall have wired up your doors for speakers or power accessories. What did yall do for a wiring loom? If you recommend anything and have pictures of it installed, be great. I think I could make something that would work with some braided hose and tubing possibly.
If you can find a car that came with factory power windows, this is the loom they used. Kind of pricey. Loom is about four inches long, mounting base is about two inches wide. Here's the door jamb. Close up view. Backside of loom. I guess I'll have to pull that back apart and fix the bare spot on the green wire. Mounting face. Hole in door.
Could you repost that picture from a distance to better show location, looks like something that could be fabbed up.
I ran wires through 3/8 vacuum hose with a clamp on each end to keep it from pulling out of the hole. It will slip back when the door closes.
I just used plastic wire loom. That factory hole on the body is so large there is never any chance of pinching it. I do like that factory idea and I think it could be replicated using some conduit and weld a bracket on the end.
As a suggestion when mounting speakers in the doors get these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BOOM-MAT-Sp...&item=140203035796&pt=Car_Audio_Video&vxp=mtr They come in other sizes, our Fords old design with the "fuzzies" do not do a good job of keeping out rain and dust which you don't want on your speakers and also it's not a bad idea to enlarge the drain hole at the bottom so it won't clog up.
Sorry been out of pocket a few days. Thanks for the pics, heck yea I can make something like that I think. Interesting. Is that factory opening that deep, or is it curving around when the door shuts? I dont remember it being all that deep but will have to check. I like those Jeff, may do that. I am trying to figure out how I am going to mount some door speakers. Anyone got door speakers showing how you made them fit? Looks like 5.25" speakers may fit the smaller hole without cutting, it would take something to make them fit flush though.
When the window is down there is not much room left at the bottom of the door anywhere past the vent window. I think you will be forced to do some cutting up by the small hole but it will be interesting to see what others have done.
Blast from the past here and I dont know why I thought of it out of the blue, but if I ever find time to get back to working on my car I thought hell, I might be able to find some boneyard trunk hinges or something similar with the right curvature to make some door wire guards out of. little cutting and add some mounting tabs and may be in business.
I used wireless contacts. The downside is the door has to be closed for the windows/speakers to work. I did not put speakers in the door, btw. It,of course, has the matching contact in the door jamb. They are available in 2, 4 or 6 pins if I remember correctly.
55-57 Thunderbirds had some door wire shields that look like the picture above (but are squarish) that might work. I ll try to post a picture. Kind of expensive though - $31 and $33 each (left and right side)
Those look pretty close to the Ford looms. Looks like they would work out great and they would be hidden so no one can raz you about having a Chevy part on a Ford.
The problem with these in an early car is the space between the door and body. You need something that will go into either the door or the door jamb.
If anyone wants a set of these, I've got one I'll let go of for postage but it will take me a while to get to them, I'm moving to Oregon next week.
