OK I can respect that. I like opinions. Sometimes it helps the creativity. I went pretty radical with doing a 5" section and 6" chop. I'd like to do something more mild in the future.

I'm always curious what people do to their steering to account for the section, got any photos?

Car looks a mile long!! Should be cool

Actually I don't have any sorry to say. At the moment there is no steering at all. I have a 28" ididit column I will be using. I retained the original column when I first sectioned it. I remove 2 of the 3 bolts in the gearbox, let it angle down with the top half of the car then re drilled the 2 mounting holes.

  4. What's cooler than chopping a 50s Chevy?
    Sectioning it as well!

Very cool, I'm keen to watch this.

What's the thinking on finished paintwork?

My plan is a true or candy blue. I'm a sucker for blue and chrome.

How about a second top grille bar inverted at the bottom, finished with a simple rolled pan?

I'm sure the guys on the Photoshop thread could be of help with any ideas you might have. Just post a good picture there dead on from the front, and ask.

That's a good idea. I was considering getting a second splash pan a flipping it and molding it to the splash on the car. With chrome round bar fitted in the middle. I like the idea of adding to the grill as well.

    Nice work.
I'm working on a similar project, but a bit milder (4"-4 1/2" chop and 3" section)

Thanks. Sounds like it'll be a nice looking car. Do you have a thread on here for it?

    That sounds really good.

Here's a picture of David Johnson's old-time Chevy, for inspiration. Great proportions, but man, it was low!

That's a good looking car. I've never seen it before. Yea it's almost cartoonish when you're standing looking over it. I'm slightly concerned about driving at night and not being seen.

  12. Perhaps put a rear roof vent off of a 58 Chev Impala, and hide a high stop brake light inside it?

Got my first attempt at my spindles. All perfect except I was off on the caliper mount and rubs the rotor. Will have to give it another shot. 20160423_230651.jpg

Pretty good idea. I'm partial to a super smooth roof though.

I did start one many years ago, but I did not update it as this is a side project and I'm not spending enough time on it. I do have some pictures here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/81587602@N00/albums/72157637187914124

Pretty wild cut out of that one. I also am curious to see it with the truck windshield for rear glass. And I like the idea of a second grille top bar inverted with a rolled pan underneath to finish off the grille opening. Looking forward to seeing how it gets finished off.

Yeah it's definitely taking lots of patience. The front will just be a stock windshield cut down. Considering attempting the cut myself.

Love the section. Chop looks maybe a bit too radical though. Too late to add an inch back in? I'm with you on the blue & chrome, one of my favorite combinations.

Thanks. I had a hard time deciding how far to chop. My goal was to have the lowest driveable car. And with the section being 5" and the top 6" I thought it would look the most proportional.
