I have been told that Wilton & Doss is the earliest BBC powered TF car...Think these pics are from 1966?

 

This is a long shot, but I wonder if this car is the same as in post 50499. The caption says "Ken Newsdreck," but the guy with dark hair next to the flathead looks a lot like Ken Drosbreck,. who worked on Mickey Thompson side-by-Pontiac dragster.....Drag News didn't always get names right...(I think that that is Ken handing Mickey his helmet in a picture of that car right above in post 50496).

 

I think you're right, this was the first fuel BB Chevy fuel dragster...Steve Bovan build the first fuel BB to run in his funny car, but this was the first fuel BB dragster motor....I was on the other side of the world in '66, but I think it is very possible that Leon "Bubby" Wilton got some information on fuel BBs from Steve Bovan, as Steve worked at Blair's Speed Shop and Bubby was a regular customer....Bubby has recently restored this car.

 

Near lane, Skeans & Pickering, Vancouver, Wa. Father and son, JL Skeans built the engines and his son Dave did the driving. 352" Chevy, won the Nationals in '60 or '61 and was A/MR NHRA Record Holder for a time. This particular chassis was built by Clarence Smith, normally known for Midgets and circle track cars. The Slo-Poks Car Club had the strongest field of Dragsters, and Comp Cars as a group in the Northwest.

 

If I was ever to duplicate a Modified Roadster, Jess VanDeventer's B/MR would be at the top of the list !

 

Sam Parriott, the "Mayor" of City of Industry. Last time I saw this car, it was on display in the foyer of the Sheraton Hotel in Industry.

 

Bob Higginson just made a Facebook post on this pic...the guy survived and had his leg(s) put back on, and he went on to tune other forms of Motorsports.

 

Pic of my friends fathers car back in the early 70s at Castlereagh Dragway,he started in a Fiat Toppolino then T Bucket in the early 60s and went on to be Australian Champion in Funny Cars in the early 80s!...I have a few more of his other cars here somewhere!..

 

What can you tell me about this car?

 

I don't think so Marty based on the fact that the wheels on the push truck are more straight up and down than the one on the dragster and any parallax distortion would have made them look worse.

It is a picture of a picture - it is in a frame along with 9 others that Garlits calls the 10 most unusual dragsters. Think I have a picture of the whole thing somewhere.

 

Think that both these cars failed tech that year.

 

That's Kenny Logan. He crashed at OCIR and lost his legs but he did survive. I believe Steve Reyes took that picture.

 

If that is Al's car it had an Olds in it. Al was/is a member of the Juggers Racing team from Burlingame Ca. This picture must be from around 1960 I would guess.

 

This shot is so cool, I remember guys with chequered flags on the front of their open trailers, especially the road-race guys did that a lot.

 

Thanks 296ardun - think you have solved the identity question. Got to thinking how similar they were when I posted them. The NHRA museum has another picture of the car but haven't responded to my identity question. Barry Price built a model of it and was the one to give the ID - posted the picture on a Facebook page and Bob Brissette said wasn't his brothers. Thanks again.

We all know about his Chevy powered bikes. The early versions were launched off a kick stand. Bring the revs up, rock off the kick stand and smokem all the way down the track... total madness back in the 60's
