So i found a damn nice Flathead Ford Inline six that turns very freely with a wrench. generator is missing along with some other minor parts such as carb, etc. but its basically all there! After I turned it over I HAD to undo the head bolts and take a look at the block!! They all came out pretty damn easy and after I got he head off I was amazed at how nice the cylinders look! No rust anywhere!! It also has a good amount of antifreeze still in it. The ****** connected to it is a four on the floow, and moves just as freely,.... like if this was thown into something you could slam the gears drop the hammer and pull away!! They guy says he wants about $70 -80 for the engine and $35-45 for the ******.

My worry is that I'm not to schooled on the inline six flathead ford?? Are there any speed parts availible? Are there any repair parts availible and how readily availible are they?? Heads, manifolds, etc?? Thanks guys!!

The Ford flat 6 is a good little motor and if you are just looking for something to get you down the road well then you can't beat that price.
The 4 speed is prooly out of a truck and has the granny first gear. which is basicly useless, unless you are towing a house, but the other 3 gears will work just fine, you just have to shift out of 1st fairly quick.
Also the falt 6s where not prone to all the overheating issues that the 8s were and the are actually faster of the line than the 8s, but lack the top end freeway speeds the 8s had. Motor trend actually did a really good test on the falt head 6 vs the falthead 8.
Now speed parts, well thats a different story all together. They are rarer then hens teeth and comand a premium if you can find them. I ran a flat 6 in my 49 Bus. coupe and came across a Knudson head and 2x1 intake...for the low, low price of 1,000. But I mean lets face it, it's a flathead, it aint gonna run all that fast anyways and you can make them look pretty cool with just some cleaning up and some chrome goodies.
I would worry about finding an O.D. trany first before doing the speed equipment thing, the best thing I ever bolted to that engine was an O.D. trans. I would do 80-90 on the freeway all day long with that thing in there.
So If you are just looking for somethig to get ya down the road, they are great, if you'r looking to haul *** though...not so much

I would say go for it for that price.
A friends dad has a 6 that he swears by.
he ran it in some little t years ago then put it in a boat for some time
then hokked it up for some wierd generator set up (didnt last long)
now he has sitting in his garage
hasnt been started in 15 years
but he said he would not give it up for less then 400 bucks
but he is weirdo and this story is boring.
    im outta here

Yeah actually everything is still in the truck but the truck is shot,..amazingly the engine and trans is nice though?? So this six really wouldn't be waht I'd want to trow in a nice little jalopy rod to get any decent speed??

Speed equipment: There were several Mfg's out there, Nicson,Knudsen & Us Cyclone, we made an intake, and 2 different cylinder heads, One for racing the other for street applications. I still have the outside patterns for both but would have to have new core boxes made, If there is any interest out there I'll make em. email me and I'll send jpgs to to anyone interested.

Somewhere, I've got a 1950 Mechanix Illustrated with a comparison between new 6 cyl. and 8 cyl. Fords, and the six beat the eight on acceleration tests up through 0-70. The V8 didn't take the six until 80mph.

Jason. If you're going to grab the engine and ****** check out the rearend too. If I'm not mistaken the flathead sixes and 4 speeds came with 4.11 gears.
