Rides is a good show as well, but I can't stand the overly articulate host. It's like he purposely emphasizes the wrong syllables for intended dramatic affect, although its just annoying.
I don't know if either of the owners from the back to back Overhaulin episodes knew what the hell they were looking at. When Chip said "Let's look under the hood," and opened it, the kid was clueless (didn't it say "HEMI" on the shaker?). I'm not sure if the rodder realized his car had a new frame. I'm just sour g****** it because they didn't pick my car. My wife told me she sent my '65 Impala in about a year ago. Within a week of telling me this, they did that black 409 Impala. Damn! Only people in California deserve to have their car overhauled.
From the first time I saw Overhaulin', he really seemed like a good guy. It's nice to know that he is.
The guy with the Model A just thinks they repainted his wheels and built a new hood for his car, and the kid hadn't even seen that Charger for a month, much less knew a f'ing thing about it. I liked both the builds, but neither one of the owners knows a damned thing about cars, much less their own. And I think that's a shame.
That's a 1941 dash and cluster- it was never going to get a '40 dash- that was a spoken mistake. Seeing the show compared to the hours and hours of taping and work they did its INCREDIBLE! They didn't even use any footage from day 2, 3 & 4.
If Foose were to do my car, the thing that would disappoint me the most is that I wouldn't get a chance to do some of the work or to make some of the decisions. Frankly, if left to my wife or son, the color or wheels or something would not be what I would want.
was probably my favorite overhaulin' yet. The car came out good and I'm glad foose made the right choice not to put some one off billet wheels on it. Thought I saw skratch in there when they showed the guy the car.
Come on- Skratch is on the "A Team"! He had probably the most to do with the outcome of that car as he brought in the windshield and the dash (a**** other pieces).
Was it me or were there less people on that build team than normal. Didn't seem like the normal "extra sponser people" we there. I saw the normal "a-team" people, thats all. When i saw the car, I knew it was gonna be good. My roomate didnt really notice anyhting at all. It was still Black and still had red wheels. That attention to detail and simplicity that the car was left with are awesome. I would be proud to own and drive that car.
I thought it was good they did so much to fix the body, imagine if you had to pay for all that time! I really liked how it came out.
thought it was cool... saw foose using a torch on the sheetmetal, I ***ume that would be like using a shrinking disc?? using some heat to shrink some wrinkles out of an area??? also saw him holding a body on the cowl and then striking the top of it with another hammer, never seen that, what was he doing there??? fun to watch and try and learn some things...
I was surprized that Skratch didnt stripe the car at all. I kept waiting to see him lay down some lines on that gloss black.
I was super excited to see it was an A rat rod they were building. The I got to thinking they were going to street rod it. When I saw the frame and front end with disk breaks I almost got up and walked out. Then they showed the 312 and said the wheels were staying so I knew I had to watch. Hard to beleive they actually repaired that body and didn't order replacement panels from brookwood or something. Sad to see the banjo wasn't used but other wise it was cool. I really liked it. Like you guys, I really want to see those adapters from the brakes to wheels. Did they end up using the front disks with Buick finned brake drum looking covers, or did they swap to actual Buick drums in the front? Sure hope we get some details. The Charger was awesome as well, seeing the kids response on d-day was dissapointing, but I liked his responses to the "cop".
I watched that show last night and thought it was awesome. It shows them old hot rod bodies ain't as easy to make purty as the muscle car stuff. It was the first build ever to over run. I think they did some awesome stuff. I have to say I did like the car alot before they even started. Chip was in there painting, cutting, bending - he ****ing rocks. Very cool guy. That hood was awesome. I really dug the old Y block build. I was wondering how they did the wheels too. Thanks. I'll bet old Charlie sleeps a lot better now. My wife said the fire wall was too much. I liked it though. That episode really shows how much work it takes for one man to build a car in his own little shop. Think about it, they had somehting like 35 people on that ****er for 8 days. Say they had 16 hour days - that's almost 4500 man hours. - thats 112 (40 hour) weeks or over 2 years for one man putting in straight 40 weeks. Now do that in your garage by your self with a normal job and family. It's Crazy. Oh yeah - 4500 hrs x 50 bucks an hour = $225,000. That doesn't even include parts. 50 bucks an hour may be cheap for some of the **** they did. And people think you are ****ed when you want to sell a built car for 30K.
You know I heard that these people have to pay a gift tax or something, like winning something on a game show and that the value of the car is pretty high because it's a Foose designed car, and they have to fork out a good chunk of dough. Has anyone else heard that? I even heard that a few of the owners couldn't afford the car after it was on the show, I don't know how much truth there is to it.
The Charger was cool, but the kid reminded me of Marlyn Manson without makeup. lol I really digged the model A hot rod they built, especially finding out they didn't make no special rims for it. I too was curious about the big 5 wheels being adapted. When they first did the engine mock up, I thought it was going to be a flat head V8, but the 312 Y block looks pretty sweet sitting under the hood. Too mad they didn't fire it up, and have the owner take it for a spin at the end of the episode like they had did on a few previous cars. I could picture it now, the model A pulls out into traffic, and the gas pedal is mashed to the floorboard, rear tires smoken' p***ing right beside the camera. David
The best build so far! I believe Foose knows what works for what car he is building. Makes me wonder if Skratch and his buddies had any influence on the final result. I wonder what Boyd would have done with it? And whats up with the fake tattoos on the host of the show. Somtimes I wonder what they cut out when he is jackin with the owners.
here is a link to the A from the show http://www.overhaulin.com/gallery45.aspx?season=3 I'd like to see them drop the "suprise the owner" and actually ask the owners and work with what they want or even better let them help build it. A lot of people have good ideas just not the money to do the work. Still I'd rather see shows like this than none at all.
I liked it before and after. But it was a BIT better of a car after. I'm also glad it didn't end up with billet wheels. Since they were so pushed for time and went over maybe it wasn't running at the presentation!? My idea for a show would be to find some of these project cars that were never finished because the builder got in over his/her head and couldn't finish it. Then get a crew like the Overhaulin' guys to come and HELP the owner finish it. I'll volunteer mine for the pilot episode. Bill
That kid in the charger probly drove over to the salon and found the perfect mascara and hair dye to match the new paint, and i thought i was skinny!! god damn i was pretty sure he broke a couple of fingers when he was shaking hands with the build crew!!
The '41 stuff looks so much better than some kitchy rat rod ****.... Hmmmm.... weren't the wheels black to start with? A bit? It was so much better it wasn't even funny. I'm glad they didn't fall into some sort of "rat rod" thing. It's better as a real Hot Rod...
That's my understanding too. You have to pay income/gift tax state/Fed. on the increased value. There have been people who won high value cars on game shows and no cash to pay the taxes.
I'm pretty late on this reply, but only recently found out about this website, so... I have to stick up for my husband. My husband noticed everything about the car, after he got some sleep. He spent 15 hours cooped up in a cold trailer while they finished his car. You tell me how alert you'd be with no sleep for 30+ hours. Not only that, you've got cameras in your face and all the excitement of having had your car done by Foose. You know that old saying, "Don't judge a book...." Just a thought.
I see you finally found us HAMBers. That's pretty quick since I just reminded today. That car gets lots of attention.Even Boyds guys were looking at it at the show. Now you see what I meant about all the hooplaw over the car,and the show.Well, like they say, even bad press is press!
