the two differences between these packages are CAD = vector + polygonal models RHINO 3D = vector + poly + NURBS modeling (or..simply put, organic modeling). there are plenty of trial software packages you can use... i recommend ZBRUSH if you want to further your skills. CAD specificaly cannot handle high resolution models... it wasnt designed for that purpose. http://pixologic.com/home/home.shtml most software programs i have used can output CAD friendly files... or at least be converted
Pretty accurate model A and deuce frame dimensions and drawings can be found at the Wesctot's site here: http://www.wescottsauto.com/site2003C/frame_specs.html I modeled the Deuce frame in 3D Studio Max, but have yet to finish it or the rest of the car.
sorry for ****in in, but I could use a copy of the model a drawing, send it in any format that you have. thanks
I cad modeled my COE frame and suspension design . . . the only way I could figure out 16" of lift with correct geometry at ride height and have it all fold up enough to lay frame. When the design was worked out I just "unfolded" all of the brackets and printed full size templates, cut pieces out of 1/4" plate and brake-bent them into shape. . . it's much easier to run suspension designs through thier range of movement on a computer and see what happens . . . before you build it. . . and i did it while on the clock at my day job!!!
can you add me to the list, i have autocad 2000. i drew my go kart on it, told me all the angles to cut each peice of steel. worked out well. And hey i can do decks too.
i'm another CAD junkie...autocad, inventor, solidworks, orcad, pads...18 years doing CAD and a couple years on paper...all CAD packages i've used have their pluses and minuses but add my name to the list wanting CAD files...and i'll make sure to p*** around any files i come across...thanks
Add me to the list for sure! Here's my email if it helps: scootermcrad@yahoo.com or we could just post a new thread with just downloads in the TECH archives or something. Post the links. First step to building a reference library.
I've been using ACAD 14 for about 8 years. Works great for quick mock-up. Email me any/all ACAD drawings for this thread, and I'll be happy to do the same when I have something useful. Bandwidth is not a problem. hotrodmike57@yahoo.com
I really want these cad files and I'm willing to work for them. Here's my offer ~ Anyone who has either AutoCad and/or Micro Station files, send them to me and I'll send them out to each and everyone who requests them. I'll even send out the format and version requested. If those who have the cad files can send me what they have, I'll wait about a week for all to come in and send everyone copies of everything that I get during that time frame, in your requested format. But to keep the board clear of unnecessary posts, PLEASE PM ME YOUR REQUEST. Let's not clog the board if we don't have to. If this sounds good, send me the files and make sure that those who want the files PM me your e-mail address and the file format you prefer, AutoCad OR Micro Station and what version. I'm trying... Vance
Vance....Do you think we can get Ryan to set up a "Tech Archives" library of this stuff ? I have a few 2D Autocad "dwg" files I'd be happy to send and I'd like to have access to whatever other files get contributed.
Well, I offered this up so Ryan didn't have to do anything. I gotta think that his plate is plenty full and doesn't need this added to it. Lets try it this way. If it gets too big then I'll start to cry for help. Vance
i have autocad 2006 here at work. i'd like to have any/all frame/body/teardrop files that anyone is willing to e-mail to me. my addy is willie.atchley@med.va.gov broman - i've got mental plans for a teardrop trailer in my head. no (or little) wood. aluminum skin. no compound curves. aircraft style rivets. want to build it someday. but house remodelling and three rod projects stand between me and the teardrop, though. if you do some searching, you'll find that many hambers like teardrop and other old/small camping trailers. and you don't need a commercial to pull them. i've seen them pulled by just about every kind of hot rod you can imagine.
I should have included this from the get go but didn't. My e-mail address is - lhulick@jdrarchitects.com This is my work e-mail, so please limit e-mails to submissions only. If you have questions or requests, PM me. Send me any Auto CAD or Micro Station file that you think others may want and I'll distribute as requested. I'll make a list available of those files that I collect in a week or so. That way everyone can know whats here for the asking. Thanks in advance from myself and anyone else who ends up getting something that they wanted. Vance
I got a 3DStudio Max v.5 file of a 37 Ford sedan I've never finished, I'll throw that into the mix !!
I've used AutoCAD for what seems to be my whole life. I make all my patterns for upholstry in autoCAD then print them on a plotter, makes the whole process a little easier. I don't have any CAD files but would be willing to be a workhorse on this project and create CAD drawings from paper, jpgs, or anything with some basic dimensions.
I love looking at these 3d renderings! :0 That red deuce and a frame look killer Wish I had the patience or time to have a play around with this stuff too. Any chance you guys can post some more 3d rendered pics up here Cheers, Paul
SolidWorks! Also a user... any other components you would like to share? I do everything in SW, so whatever I have a available you're welcome to. Maybe we can get the SW exchange program going.
I know I have some 38 chevy AutoCAD drawings... I burned them on to disk about a year ago... need to find them... I believe I have some other too... Please add me to the list... stevilknievel (at) entermail.net... Thanks!
Gotta say I love this shot!!!! I'm telling ya, This is the best time to be alive! Would love to see more of this one when you get a chance. Kevin
Autocol, Lilow Auto Tech in Pine lodge Vic. probably could help. They advertise in ASR. All their rails, including 32's and 4's, with various kickups are laser cut from computer drawings then robot TIGed together. And that's as close to computer talk as I can get. But I hope it helps.
I will mail you my 32 frame drawings if I can find where i stored them, I was a while ago now. I also have the frame I built for the model T RPU on auto cad. I will send you the good stuff I have got when I get home from work.
Have sent drawings of a original Model A frame, the frame I built for my 30 Coupe, a car hauler and three tear drop trailers. Canuck
I use AutoCAD for building almost everything. Then I take it to Bryce for rendering. I used Rhino for awhile, but it didn't shave any huge amounts of time for me and I was/am just more adept at using AutoCAD. I had a guy who was going to give me Poser - but he kinda wanted too much in exchange, so I quit dealing with him. I also have Solidworks and Pro-E at my disposal, but in my line of work I never need to build 3D models - so AutoCAD is the best thing going for me. The 2007 version of AutoCAD will be a lot more like Solidworks, with a dynamic UCS - letting you select a face and build of of it "on the fly". Should be interesting. As soon as I can get more measurements I will begin modeling the teardrop. You can be sure I will share....
Autocol, I hope Im not hi-jacking your thread, at least not too badly. After all, this is for the common good. Apparently the idea of warehousing these CAD files seems to have taken off. So far I have 20 files from only about five guys! I have a feeling this is gonna end up pretty extensive from the files Ive already gotten. Ive come up with at better idea, so let me throw it at you all. Since there is such a growing list of files, is might be difficult to send different people different files. What Id like to do is let the incoming files come in thru the end of March and then burn one CD that contains all the files in both AutoCAD r12 and Micro Station Version 7. Ill happily mail these out to those who want one. If you wanna donate to the shipping charges great, if not thats fine too, (just remember, what goes around comes around;-). This CD will include a printed list of all files as well as the names of those who contributed them. Ill try to get the CDs mailed out as soon as I can, so be patient. Keep in mind that I work fulltime in either Ohio or Cali, depending on the schedule. For this go around, lets keep this to STRICTLY 2D CAD files, (and any supporting do***entation files, i.e. Word or PDF files). If there is a big calling for the 3D stuff, we can do that later. Please send your MAILING address to this e-mail address lhulick@sbcglobal.net Please continue sending CAD files to this e-mail address lhulick@jdrarchitects.com Im doing this to help keep things straight and its working so far. For those wanting to donate for the shipping, PM and Ill send you my mailing address. I really hope this works for everyone, I think it will. Vance
