Tire Hopping

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Voodoo Jim, Mar 8, 2006.

  1. I Searched the tech dept. There was tire shake, but not much hop. Someone told me that biasply tires should always be balance on the outside rim. Sometimes they have to be shaved. Can I just put them on the rear and roast them? Will that work for shave? Help! Thats the only thing I dislike about my car. Im trying different drums tommorrow.

    Jim,

Get your tires balanced via road force variation method. Makes a TON of difference... I just mounted bias on the back of my '38 and have zero problems...

That said, if you are having wheel hop issues during acceleration it prolly is not the tires... I'd bet it is a suspension issue.

    Love,

My front bias tires were hopping like mad, I had them shaved and balanced. The story is in the new R&C.

I've got a light car with friction shocks and when they loosen up I get tire hop at certain speeds. You are talking about front suspension, right? Just something else to look at.

Fleet Farm in my area RFV balance my Tires. Went from something like 80lbs rebound to under 5. Check with Fleetfarm if you have one.

  14. excatly if they dont know what RFV is then leave, and seek out another one who does. Loudpedal did mine and I havent had any problems at all with my bias, they ride like a dream.
