Thanks for the info tony my wheels were not polished just machined surface I'll give the sandblast a try

  2. MAN! BEATING UP ON MY NICE WORK ALREADY! Since the compression is still there, and the screw didn't mash in the deepest part of the valve pocket possible pinching the ring there, looks like you Dodged a bad screwing! The exhaust valve/seat might have a little acne. Make sure you check valve lash on that cylinder to make sure no bent valves etc.

  3. PS. The Chili is ready, but unfortunately, if I go to that race this weekend (and I'm dying a slow death over it), and leave the wife in this new house with a mountain of boxes still unpacked.., I'll be living in a g***er down by the pond! Looks like you safe from the angry Child for just a little longer!

I think the reason no one mentions staking the screws is bc the ****erflies are meant to be alined in the bores once the injection is put together. According to Quain that is why the holes in the ****erflies are drilled a little oversize so you have room to center them up. Quain didnt advise staking them, but i would have to do something or i wouldnt be able to sleep at night

  7. the hilborn screws are special pan heads. if you start pounding on them there is a good chance of bending the shaft. I have run injection for years. the right screws and lock washers with red lock tight is all you need. if you bend that shaft the fun will really begin if it sticks wide open. it may work free in the pits but as the casting gets hot then cold on a p*** it just might cause a problem. hilborn has been around for over half a century I think they would stake the screws if it was a good idea. I hope you have a toe loop you might need it.

Ya know Tony, Racer-X just may have a valid point. I think I'd drop a dime to hilborn.

For what its worth, the new screws are a few threads longer and I put the spring punch on the threads. Don't want to repeat that error. If all the guys who ****ed a ****erfly screw in the last 50 years got together, would we need a 6 pack or a keg o_O

  10. yes the holes are oversize to center the blades. there is a very specific way to set a stack injector up properly. one of the things i do is use a angle gauge to set the arms up equally. there are several steps to get it correct. if they are done in the right order they work great.

Loc***e 263 should do the job.
Also have a closer look at the screw clearance hole .
The edge of the hole needs to have a small chamfer about 15 thou should do.
Currently looks like it has a burr which may have stopped the screw form seating fully home.
The other thing is the screw may have had a small radius where the thread meets the underside of the pan head this could also stop the screw from seating correctly.
Great job on the car it looks great and getting closer to some wins all the time.

Sorry to see you miss round 1 today. Was it related to the injector screw problem? Or did something unrelated just happen during qualifying?

Face Book - never heard of it - hahaha I've avoided it so far ;) That was a great day! wall to wall people and everyone having a good time. It looks like the screw didn't hurt anything. Get the best time ever out of it and it was still lean a little. Time to find a driver now - leaving 1/2 second on the tree almost every p*** :(

On the 2nd p*** I broke the Hightower - maybe a little too much enthusiasm in the 3rd gear hit o_O

We'll get it fixed before Steel In Motion and then try to work on reaction times. Man that was a good day!

did anybody get any photos of my dragster Tick Tock?? We made one beautiful p*** 5.51 our best ever--Our good friend Danny Sandlin had transbrake trouble in staging--it made for lots of extra engine heat which is..as it turned out just what our car wanted--we ran our best p*** ever!!
Great day yesterday--Congrats to all the new cars that made it--wow! What a crowd!! Fans streamed by our pits all day with thumbs up! We had a ball!!! Thanks Quain Stott!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Jimbo! Painted myself into a corner - so much hand lettering on it now, it will hurt like hell to sand it off and paint it.

Thanks Dave! That run was still a little lean, went to the pits and put in a 50 pill and the 60foot went to 1.39 so it has some tuning to go a little more.

I vote for NO paint! Leave the way it is, she's SWEEET! It's a '39 so in 1966(which is what the SEG is going for) it was over 25 years old. You have a winner bro!!
