Hi all. I have a 53 Cadillac with the stock 331. I recently put a pertronix electronic ignition in it and it ran great. Tweaked in the carb and timing and got it idling well at around 600-700 rpm. After lubing my vacuum wiper motor and putting fresh clamps on all the vacuum lines running to it, the car will no longer idle. Is it possible that a vacuum leak to the wipers would cause the engine to idle high? I adjusted everything before checking for a vacuum leak there which I know I should have done.. Any input is greatly appreciated!
Back track your work. Are all the connections on and back where they started? Did moving any of them open up a small crack that is allowing in air? Start with the small, easy stuff first. Other, more knowledgeable people may have more suggestions soon.
Or unplug the line and see if it will idle. You may have to lean out your idle mixture screws with the vacuum leak resolved. KK
So I think I got the issue squared away. It seems like I was band-aiding the vacuum leak and compensating with carb adjustment. A little tweaking with the throttle plate screw and it's running great. Thanks for the ideas
