I went to look at a 1951 Dodge 3 window coupe in the paper with my dad, and not only did he find the car he wanted, I offered to buy the 1950 Dodge sitting in the back. a little rough but a year of lunch money will fix her up, enough. any suggestions?

My daily (until the clutch went out two weeks ago) is a '50 Wayfarer 2 door sedan, with dual carbs, split exhaust, lowered, etc etc. Chop coming soon, 5 speed in the works now.(No sese puttin' a clutch back in with the Fluid Drive) Pic is of Doug Shoemaker's '50 from Wichita Ks, circa 1989. I've posted it before, but it's a big influence for me, so here it is again.
I have a nice 50 Ply Custom 4dr that is almost finished, needs paint and a few minor things. They are great cruisers and look good customized. The motors are solid and will hold 60mph all day long, at least mine does. Just a word of caution---they do not sell well so keep your costs in line with the fact that there isn't much chance of recouping your money going into the car. 31acoupe
I've got a 51plymouth concorde 2 door fast back sitting in a farmers field, waiting for the guy who bought my 58 dodge pickup to come and get the truck so i can have room to bring the plymouth home. Hows that for a runon sentence. They are cool cars which you don't see to many of. Good luck with yours. Gregg
Yea thats what i want to do, it has the gyromatic transmisson though, would it be possible to change that?
yes, you can change the trans. There are several choices, all of which have been discussed before, but, anyways. You could go straight three speed from a Plymouth, a three speed with overdrive, or buy/build an adapter to a later stick or auto. I personally am putting an s10 5 speed behind mine.
These Mopars have to be one of my FAVORITE early 50's cars EVER! Here's a few pics of a Dodge I keep trying to sweet talk the owner out of.......he doesn't seem to fall for it tho.
Yea get it running driveing and stopping. Wax the **** out of it and drive it until you decide what is the ultimate best thing to do with it. Unless its either back crunched somewhere or bad rusted somewhere that car is already cool enough to cruise with the original paint and you can give it a chance to develope its own personality.
