This is my first time working (building) a car/rat rod. My son asked me to get something that he and I could build together. I got this 53 not knowing how expensive the glass was, wow! So..... after much research I purchased another 53 with decent glass. My question is I'm having trouble getting some pieces off of the parts car, such as where the windshield wiper connects to the chrome around the windshield. Are they anyone on here that would take me under their wing and put up with me asking questions from time to time when I get stuck? I would truly appreciate it.

  2. First thing to buy, if not in your grasp now, is a 1953 GM Service Shop Manual.
It'll be your best friend, if you want to do whatever, the right way.
GM has the manual listed for '49 to '53, with a '54 supplement. It's available from several places, like The Filling Station, for $20 bucks, or so.

    Here's a HAMB thread on a '53.

My first piece of advice would be to not build a rat rod. I'm a professional hot rod/custom builder, with a '54 Chevy of my own. I would be happy to give you advice as you need it. PM me.

I'm building a 4 door 53. But I'm just learning as I go so I won't be a whole lot of help. You're welcome to check out my thread. (And don't worry. I got shit for using the rat rod words before too).

Well maybe rat rod was not the right term. Lol. How about rusted gold.

I have a '53 4 door that I am working on. I also have an original manual as mentioned earlier. It is the bible on this car and no other will do. If you have questions you can ask me too. [IMG]

Recommend safety glasses for the youngin especially, and anyone else flickin rust with a wire brush etc.
Just a heads up, its easy for us all to forget the glasses. Ask me how I know.

Kids will learn a lot more useful stuff working on the car than any school will teach them.
