I know I saw a picture of a '51 with a '50 hood on it, because I remember all the portholes. It was a picture of a '51 Buick that had been cut up into a wrecker for a dealership, I think it also used the '50 moustache bar and bumper/grille but I could be wrong about that. You might be able to find it with a creative search. (edit, found it, surprisingly easily at that!) If your car is a Special you will need a hood from a Special, the Super and Roadmaster are both longer and wider and will not interchange.
Apparently a '50 Roadmaster hood will fit on a '51 Roadmaster if you use the '50 grille surround, found the pics, shown above. Can't say for sure if that info is going to cross over to the Special since they were on a totally different platform but if it were to work, you would for sure need the '50 donor to be a Special.
thanks Squablow. i have a 50 special that is missing some front end parts. now i know i have more options.
Hi there, I have 2 x 1950 buicks, both specials. from what I understand the super and roadmaster buicks are wider than the specials (but not by much) and the roadmaster's are longer than the others (longer hood due to the larger/longer 320cu engine block), that being said, I believe the bumpers and grills are the same width ( I've used a roadmaster rear bumper on my special and it's the same). I believe the bodies and fender shapes between 1950 - 1952 are pretty much identical (Except pothole layout), so I can't see why the 50 hood wouldn't fit your 51 (provided its a special/the same series). i'm even more certain that an entire 1950 front clip would fit a 51 body... I am happy to provide you some measurements of my 50 special hoods if that helps at all? Not a definite answer, but hope gives a little more info to your cause.. Jimbo
Mike, sorry I did not see this question sooner. The answer is no. In '51 the Special is a different animal than '50.. '52 should fit. Ben
