P T Cruiser cover is the best. I have witnessed Harley owners put a Honda cover on their motor bike.. Who steals a P T Cruiser ??

The Harley with the Honda cover might not be a good idea. Crotch rockets are stolen all the time. The thieves have no trouble unloading them because no one worries about tagging them. Quite a few states have the no pursuit rule so the buyer has little fear of getting caught.

By all means be insured but, having had my car stolen (and thankfully recovered intact), if you have a lot of blood, sweat, time and memories in your car the money is secondary. If you bought your car for big bucks already built, not so much.

When I read this type of thread, it makes me sad how our country has changed in my lifetime (68 now) When I travel with one of my cars, I ask about security or lighted parking at motel, hope for the best and have cars insured properly. Everything changes thorough time, some good, some bad and at the risk of sounding like a "Old Timer" I think things were better in the OLD DAYS. Adapt and change with the times is my solution and try to be careful ! Respect, common Courtesy, Integrity, Honesty, are becoming a rarity

Hey Jim I assume you'll be coming up I-5 and passing through Olympia. I'm 30/4o minuets north in Federal Way, we have some pretty decent hotels here right off I-5 on 32oth. I'm 5 minuets from them and you can leave your duce here in my back yard drive way, behind a 6 foot gate that is always dead bolted, if that woks for you. I'd be willing to drive you back the four or so blocks to the hotel and pick you up in the morning to continue your journey. You'd have to back track to Olympia 30 or 40 minuets then head a short distance west then north on SR 101 or go into the city and take a ferry and continue on that way. I wouldn't recommend that though as the traffic is horrendous these days in the mornings anywhere near or around Seattle.
I have no plans as of right now for June, but could have, you'd need to let me know your dates of course.

Hi Larry & thanks for the offer.
There is no place better than the HAMB.
My fear is not so much about the car being stolen
but rather it just being messed with.
I really appreciate all the suggestions. You guys are the best

Drove from San Diego to Washington state in three days, exactly like you are proposing to do, in a car without any sort of top. Stayed at a motel in Mukilteo Washington for several days, then took three days to drive it back home. These are three very safe states that you're traveling through, and I did nothing more than throw a generic car cover on my ride at night. Don't go through life living in fear. You'll be just fine. Trust me.
You won't enjoy your trip if you're paranoid. Relax and enjoy the experience of traveling through some spectacular scenery.

For those of you that need portable and reliable protection, there is a product that was invented by a guy from my area, it is called the Tattle Tale alarm system.
Jegs has it in their online catalog. There is a website if you need more information.
    www.tattletale.com
I have nothing to do with the company, I just heard it being discussed on a local car talk radio show

A good friend of mine drilled the brake pedal arm on his 32 3-window so that it will accept a heavy duty lock. He applies the brake hard and locks it. He has a toggle switch that disconnects the brake light switch.

Over insure it to its actual value.Being a retired insurance guy, nothing ever seems to happen to stuff that has too much coverage. Too little or none and shit will happen. Insurance karma.

Greg- You cant quantify that statement. I'm not necessarily arguing with the value of good insurance, but it sounds like you are still in the game.

I would have a three on the tree, manual choke, a fuel cut of, line lock and kill switch.

All good items for racing, all good items for anti theft!

The number of people under 30 that can drive three on the three, or any other manual drops these days. Criminals over 50 is dropping drastic, either they are
Masterminds or godfathers, if they are neither they are addicts and only care for fast flips, like gas monkeys.
So that dropped the number of possible candidates hard.
No HAMBers steals, so that cuts down even further.

So a line lock and hand brake pulled tight makes it even harder. If you hide the kill switches, all is well. Hard to impossible to start, hard to impossible to tow.

I worked at Lowes for a few years and when I would drive the T to work I had a chain that went through the spokes ('35 Ford wires) and padlocked. My wife thought I was paranoid but too many empty trailers came and went in that parking lot. Wouldn't take a minute to drop ramps and push the car onto the trailer. Never was messed with that I know of.

O.K. I have a hidden kill switch, an electric fuel pump shut off switch, a manual transmission, a working parking brake, a high caliber pistol and a car cover, that I stopped using years ago because I'm LAZY. I generally sleep pretty well when at Hotels. I figure if someone is wanting to steal a Hot Rod there is usually way better cars in the lot than mine, so they probably wouldn't risk the jail time fooling around with my junk. But if a thief wants anything bad enough they will succeed at acquiring it. With the amount of roll back and wheel lift tow rigs around it really doesn't take much to sneak a vehicle out of a parking lot with nary a sound. I guess all we can do is make it as difficult as we can on the low life scum of the earth and hope our wheels are still there in the morning! That being said I did see an interesting strategy at the Detroit Dream Cruise a few years ago. I'm guessing there were 10 to 15 vehicles traveling together and while they were at the Hotel they parked nose to tail and very close to each other with their front wheels turned as sharply as they would go either left or right. Then they had newer pick ups at each end of the line. Not saying it was theft proof but it sure would cause some commotion to get a vehicle out of that line. Joe

Works to avoid drive offs but crack a brake line and fodder for towing or trailer.

We have also discussed drilling a hole through a front rotor and applying a high grade padlock. As my brother(WZJUNK) mentioned earlier in this thread, it is very difficult to move any vehicle with one wheel that won't rotate.

Depends on your car....If I hear mine fire up, takes my banger 20 minutes to warm up, and I could beat it in a foot race to the corner. I should be able to get up, take a quick shower and beat them to the first signal.
