So for some reason my last thread was deleted, must be some aussie hate going on haha. Anyway I just purchased my first project, a 1936 Chevrolet Master Deluxe. Got a few big plans for her which were in my other post so I don't wanna have to type them again because I'm lazy.
Nice shape and a good project. Hope you've got your wood working tools ready these old girls are full of it. All the best look forward to updates.
All the wood will be ripped out and replaced with steel Sent from my SM-N9005 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
I think i seen one of these here that they turned into a panel looked pretty cool good luck Sent from my LGMS330 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
First step is to remove all the wood and replace with steel. Will post updates as i go. Gonna be a long term project. Sent from my SM-N9005 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
I don't envy your having to build a steel framework for that car. I just did that with a '21 T Roadster body. It was a lot of work, but nothing like what you're up against.
I have the determination so hopefully she comes out good! Haha honestly i wish it was left hand drive. This chev is different from the American ones, chassis built in America and body is built over here in Aud by GMH(Holden) Sent from my SM-N9005 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
Just wondering what everyone thinks. I plan on cutting the roof down and steel out of the frame, which one should be done first? Sent from my SM-N9005 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
Started stripping the body down to lift off the chassis Sent from my SM-N9005 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
you should rebuild all the body supports and get it square ON the chassis. the car should be sitting square, on four even tires or jack stands. don't rip all the wood out if it is good. hard to tell from here but the wood around the door windows looks fine. replacing/repairing/bracing the wood might be easier than making steel replacements.
some thing doesn't jive . those are 35 doors .either the radiator shell has been changed or the doors have been changed , I suspect the shell .
Aussie made body on chev chassis Tripped me out aswell Sent from my SM-N9005 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
Sheetmetal seems good shape, and glad to hear you have a good attitude to change out the wood for steel. One year later and it would not have all that wood. I always liked the more rounded windows on the pre-37 as opposed to the 37-39 shape. You also got the unfortunate master deluxe front end. I have that same on my 37 Chevy Ute. It works, but the std solid axle is a lot better.
Lots of work ahead. There is a local rodder down here steeling out his body and doors at present. Holden body won't interchange with Fisher body, only the fenders and hood; doors etc are different. You could tudor and chop it
Level and support frame, chop, then replace wood before thinking of removing body. I just went through this on a 32 Chevy.
I would NOT reccomend this.
Should i steel it out then lift off? Cause i wanna get the chassis blasted and powdercoated Sent from my SM-N9005 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
Should i steel it out then lift off? Cause i wanna get the chassis blasted and powdercoated Sent from my SM-N9005 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
it is best to "pre build" the car before doing any final paint/powdercoat. get the frame level, then get the body welded up. fit the mechanicals, plan out every hole that needs to be drilled, bracket that needs to be added, notch that needs to be cut, etc before doing paint work. i have even gone as far as driving a hot rod i built before blowing it all apart and painting.it seems like extra work but it saves time and repainting.
