Have been trying to corner the worlds supply of 53 Mercurys. I have 4 now so hoping have enough parts and pieces to build one car. Plan is to put a 302/aod. Just bought a 1990 Grand marquis with 112,000 miles. Plan is to swap that motor/trans into the Merc. Likely will be this fall when I start.. I have a couple projects to finish up and need to sell a couple cars before I start on this one. I also have a 57 ranchero behind the shop under roof I hope to do after the 53. Any ideals on how to make this easier just chime in. Larry
Welcome to our Ford group,OK this will make it EZ I just helped a guy on a facebook Ford Group with using this: http://www.butchscoolstuff.com/52-5...sb-ford-engine-transmission-mount-kit-2505cp/ If you go to the top of this Group you will see this: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/faq-sticky.897329/ That is the file I spoke of with all the good info,go to page 4 and scroll down and you will see the 302 AOD install in a '53 .
Thanks For the info. I need to finish up my 55 f100 and redo some stuff on my 39 ford. I also have a car or two to sell to make room in the shop for this project. I am gathering info and some parts to do the swap.
Welcome aboard from a fellow Missourian. Be sure to post some pics of your project. I'd love to see the 57. Been aching for one of those for a long time.
Welcome. I will be in your town in a couple of weeks for NSRA event. Be in my 40 coupe since my Sunliner is far from complete.
welcome to the forum "Any ideals on how to make this easier just chime in." Finish the Ranchero first then you'll have a cool parts pick up to pick up parts (parts pick up to pick up parts..not sure if that's redundant) for the Merc. You asked, lol.
Thanks for the welcome guys. Flyboy89,Rui,, Mr tomato head,Okiedokie,Texas57 and 56longroof. I appreciate it. 56longroof Guessing you must have a 56 wagon. I have 2 57 ranch wagons for parts for the ranchero. Okiedokie I will be there too. Will be in my 39 Coupe. Maybe can try to meet there. Looks like you also have a F100 I have a 55 Texas57. Believe me I have considered that. The ranchero is fairly solid and did run and drive 5 years ago. Parked it behind the shop under roof. The biggy issue is quite a bit of rust around the tailgate area. I have 2 ranch wagons and one had really solid rear 1/4's and rear section, new fuel tank and rechromed bumpers and grill. I plan on making it a pretty nice car and will spend a lot more time on it than I will on the 53 Merc. I plan on making it a clean daily driver
Ranchwagons are one of the most sought after of the '57's. "Parts cars"....too far gone to restore? The Rancheros, as you probably know, share the same tailgate as the wagons...only the screwed-on top plate making the diference. Sounds like you've got a field full of cars, lol.
I have more cars than I likely have time left to fix them. I had 53 cars here 7 years ago. Doctor told me 7 years ago I had 3 to 5 years left before my expiration date. I decided to get rid of a lot of the older stuff and not leave them for family to get rid of. I had several older (30 40's) coupes and roadsters I sold and a bunch of other stuff. I had 3 51 Pontiac wagons and some other odd ball stuff. SO far not croaked and still fooling with stuff. I live in the woods. One of the ranch wagons was parked near my shop and a tree came down in a high wind and laid perfectly from front to back onto the top. It had been a very complete car and buildable. The other one is a solid wagon, but someone had cut the frame rails off just in front of the firewall. I guess was going to install some sort of a frame clip. I think I have enough stuff to build the ranchero and a ranch wagon. If I wanted to leave the ranchero stock I could simple redo the rear section and get rid of the rust and drive it. The main rust is in the area where the tailgate hinges and the latch post area. It is a 292 3 speed. Likely more information that you wanted to know LOL
