Hi HAMB, I am new to the USA and trying to insure my 54 Chev, here is my problem. I insured my 54 with HAGERTY in Feb, two weeks later they cancelled my policy because my wife and I only have one daily driver vehicle. Hagerty then reinstated the policy until may when they cancelled it again stating because we only have one daily driver. I phoned Grundies, and explained my situation, all good got a quote, filling in the application and phoned to ask a question, once agin I'm informed that they will not cover me as i only have one regular driving vehicle. our daily driver is insured with Geico, i called them, no dice they will only insure the care for a depreciated value from its retail price in 1954 ($1770) I am in the Australian military working in SC for twelve months, I get driven to and from work every day with a defence provided vehicle. I do not need another vehicle and the 54 will only be used for car shows and occasional pleasure trips, not daily driving. 1. How do I get insurance for my 54? 2. Is it possible to have only one regular use vehicle and to licensed drivers in the same house ? Please somebody steer me in the right direction. Grant
It should be fairly easy to get a liability policy from any licensed insurance agent ...where the trouble starts is trying to get a policy for your stated value, with only one daily driver.
Grundy requires an additional vehicle for each member of the household beside the cl***ic vehicle. Gary
Any chance you can get them to accept an official letter from the military stating that your daily transportation is provided by them? You would also have to get them to work that out with thier underwriters. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
You could also buy a $500 piece of **** daily. Insure it as cheap as possible, register it and park it. Then sell it when you leave the country. Not the most cost effective solution but it's a solution. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I suggest you try American Modern Home Insurance Company. Good rates, guaranteed value and they "stack" my coverage limits with my daily driver Nationwide policies. You maybe can access them through a Nationwide agent or call Cl***ic Automobile Insurance Agency In (800-397-0765) For what it's worth-you usually get what you pay for. Geico, StateFarm, Safe Auto-those are companies that sell insurance when you are mandated by law to need insurance. What you should have is insurance that covers you when you have a problem. I have been very happy with nationwide-home/auto/business/liability/personal liability-for almost 30 years.
Vintage6t has the answer. Buy the cheapest car/truck you can find, it doesn't even have to run, insure it as cheap as possible and let it sit.
Maybe your original insurance company in Australia will cover it, ***uming you have 'history' with them. ?
Man if you were closer I would have given you an almost dead ford focus just to put insurance on. It was like 12 dollars a month. Insurance companies ****.
Why can't you just go through Statefarm or another mainstream company? My 54 Buick and 52 GMC are both covered through them, full coverage on both and they are my only vehicles. Value was agreed upon when I set up the policy. I actually increased both limits as I have improved the vehicles.
Go by a $300 pos and let it set at work with insurance liability . way cheap then paying for a new 54 Jim
I had the same issue when posted in Ca. Insured daily with Geico and my Model A with Geico. Explained my particular (same) situation and all good.
You could go with regular insurance on it and skip the cl***ic car dealie altogether. Drive it like any other car with minimal coverage. But if it was wrecked or stolen, you'd be SOL. You're here for a year, are you willing to roll the dice?
"The only reason someone would want insurance is if they want to pay someone else's bills or want someone else to pay their bills."
Might check with State Farm. They offered a cl***ic car full coverage policy where you set the value of the vehicle and state the number of miles it would be driven annually. Don't know if it requires a ride for each driver or not. Never came up.
Technically, insurance isn't required, though "proof of financial responsibility" is. The alternative is posting a bond of a certain dollar amount, maybe $10k, probably depends on the state. Although, I don't know who sells them or anything. Liability is to protect the driver financially, most people are probably judgment proof, but.
Just a bit of info for those talking of insuring their rods or customs with regular carriers. such as State Farm. The policies they write are stated value NOT agreed value. There's a big difference if your car is heavily damaged. Stated value they can and will depreciate your car the same as any other. With agreed value they don't.
