Just bought a set of 4 . 4 inch wide 16 mopar wheels for my 28 coupe . Looking at buying 750 rear and 500 for the front stones either bias or radials .Do i need to run tubes .Any advice is appreciated
Probably. Riveted wheels are not well known for holding air without special treatment (sealer/welding). The absence of safety beads can allow the bead to walk, causing air loss in the absence of a tube, especially at the low pressures that one would expect to be running with a lightweight coupe.
One thing to keep in mind if running tubes is the speed rating/heat build-up on the tire. If it's a tube-type tire (tubes needed), you'll be ok. If putting tubes in a tubeless tire, you need to reduce the speed rating as the combination of the tubes and the thicker tubeless tire sidewall will hold more heat.
this subject has been beat to death on here...4" and 4.5" wide wheels are just fine for 7.00's and 7.50's...guys have been running this setup for the last 70 years with no problems
