I think I found the perfect answer for a body for my MG TD hot rod. The Website for R R Fibergl*** of Tennessee shows a low-buck rod with a fibergl*** Model T body on 1950 frame rails. I am pasting the story below. Does anyone know this outfit or know how I can reach Clyde Hollar of (I think N. Carloina)?

    THE STORY

R&R Fibergl*** has been in business for nearly 30 years. Car Bodies has become a big part of our business as well as selling Fibergl*** body parts for cars and truck’s from the late 20’s to 70’s Clyde Hollar’s story is an interesting story and they wanted to share with other Hot Roding enthusiast. Hot Roding in the 50’s meant you used what you had or could borrow. Clyde Hollar’s story required some real creative thinking on his part when it came to building his most recent Hot Rod.
Clyde visited R&R Fibergl*** in Decatur TN with Nick Pharr in Jan of 2007. They loaded up the two car bodies and off they went back home to Statesville, NC. Clyde put his thinking cap on and knew exactly what he was going to do. He was going to build a low buck rod. One that would bring him lots of fun and enjoyment. 5 month later Clyde was running around town to car club nights showing off his newest project.

If you are a purist you may not like Clyde’s Ford but Clyde built the car from ground up he also did his own painting so it’s a total house build for less than $3000. Clyde gets as much fun out of this low buck car as the big boys do and maybe more.

Why use British parts to build his Fibergl*** 1927 Ford T ? Guys asked him why he didn’t put a Chevy 350 V-8 in it his reply was “I didn’t have one” Clyde had collected British parts for years. Here’s what so unique about this hot rod. The body is mounted on a 1951 MG-TD frame. A complete cross member ***embly from a 1969 MGB is used for the front end. The steering is a 1969 MGB rack and pinion ***embly with a 1964 MGB Steering Column. The gas tank from a 1964 Triumph TR-4.Seats from a Geo Tracker. The list goes on.

What do you plan to do with the MG-TD body? If you are going to sell it consider me an interested party.

If I had a decent MG TD body to use with the ch***is I sure wouldn't pull it off and make a cobbled together looking T out of the ch***is unless I didn't have enough of the body to use. A souped up TD is pretty damned traditional as long as you don't overdo it on the engine part.

If your MG ch***is is in decent shape, why not consider using it to build a Ken Miles tribute hot rod? Miles was a Brit ex-pat working as a sporty car mechanic/racer in SoCal in the early '50s, who rebodied an MG with flat stock bent over simple tubular formers and bolted and riveted in position. The only compound curves on the entire car were in the nose. Known as the Miles MG R1, the car kicked *** in SoCal sportscar racing at the time against sportscars of all sizes, and is truly an iconic hot rod. Ken miles went on to play a major role in sportscar development and racing, and you can find much of his story on Wikipedia.

Here are a couple of images of the MG R1, when it was first built, showing just how simply it was done . . .

. . . and as it is now, fully restored and looking very racy.

And here's another view of the car on a restricted site.

Many people put V8 60s in MG TD's back in the day, thats what mine had in it when my friends bought it in 1962.

Me too! I got to see it race several times against Jaguars, Morgan +4s, Triumphs, A-Hs, and even M-Bs and Ferraris, etc., and it was nobody's *****, always finishing in the top three overall and sometimes winning outright.

Miles reduced the weight of the stock MG (around 1800-plus pounds) by several hundred pounds to gain a substantial increase in hp/lb ratio. He also did some essential engine upgrades that amounted to a 25-30 percent gain in horsepower (55 hp cranked up to 70-plus hp) to produce an affordable, lightweight sportscar than could compete with the spendy English and other European sports racers that cost several times as much. It was hot rodding, pure and simple.

I went the other way. Took a 27T four door tourer gl*** body of and am putting an MG TC body on. The gl*** body was in too many pieces for me to maintain interest. It is available if any one is interested.

  15. Did you get the measurements you needed of the body? I have an original TD .
