Did a web search and came up empty for a document that would show some realistic dimensions for each model. Does anyone have something they could scan for me or point me to a link that would have a page showing a detailed drawing with dimensions?

ORRR... even better... someone could just send me there 727 and I could take the dimesnsion! ;) :D

    Thanks in advance!

Small block A727 would work. That's a ton of dimensions to take, but if you feel up to it that would be great.

The primary things I need are:
    1) case dimensions (length, length of tail, height, width, etc.)
    2) shaft locations (center lines) relative to case and/or mounting surfaces and protruding lengths.
    3) locations of mounting holes and rear pad
    4) locations of linkage, dip stick, pan, etc.

That's A TON of dimensioning... so if there's something already out there it would probably be easiest. I suspect anyone who has a repair manual may have these already. Anything would help though! Thanks!

  5. They made different length tail shafts, I found one at a swap last year the the tail shaft was only about 6" long.

I got a long shaft small block tranny in the garage I'll snag some dimensions for ya and post 'em right quick. my big block tranny is down at the shed, its a truck tranny but I've measued iot and the only real difference i've found is the hawgs head.

I can tell you right now that the shaft is not offset.

    back in a flash.

36" total length (block to tail)
    20" talishaft housing.
    171/2wx16hx6deep bellhousing.

main case about 9" wide and 101/2" from the pan flange to the high point.

Cooling lines are on the drivers front and dipstick tube is pass front.

Thanks for the help man!! :D

After some major digging through TCI's site I found this:
    http://tciauto.com/tech_info/trans_dims.htm
Sort of helpful, but doesn't give shaft locations and other details.

for the record pre A500 and A518 trannys excluded..the mounting distance from the bell housing to the tranny mounts was all the same for all autos and manuals for Chrysler...measure one and you have them all...

  8. That's what I thought, but I couldn't remember for sure. That short shaft truck tranny I saw last year the tail ended just behind the mount. I shoulda bought it just for the tail shaft. DOH

I was looking at the TCI link I posted above and noticed that TCI sells a "shorty" transmission. It appears as if it's not running a tail section. The overall length appears to be way short... but then I started looking even closer and the dimensions are really strange in relationship to the tail mount. It gives the overall (A) dimension as 17-15/16 and then it gives the mounting pad dimension of (C) as 20-9/16?? The (B) dimension for the end of the main case is strange too... shorter than all of them! What the %&*#! I'm confused now!!!

Is anyone running a TCI A727 shorty?

Great info! I don't think it's a violation to post good links to good info here, but if so then you created a huge violation! :D

Still looking for dimensional info folks! I need to CAD this transmission, so the more info the better! Thanks!
