I'm not sure how far 1960 is from Mokan, but it looks like you're just a bomber seat and a rollcage away from an HA/GR dragster.

Texas is a fur piece from Florida. I understand H altered but what is the "GR"?

Check out the H.A.M.B. Drag Nationals, traditional drag racing on the Mokan ultra-traditional dragstrip. HA/GR is a low buck class Ryan created. You might be especially interested in the Rapid Rabbit!

    I've got a question,

I've been told by a few guys that 2 transverse leaves and a push/pull drag link set up like that will give a very wonky feel to it, like it want to flop side to side.
One guy says coil overs, on guy says 2 parallel rear leaves.

Is this srue, or is there a better solution?

It is basically what came on an awful lot of Fords and many Hot Rods since then. That is what I had on my Vega which went over 200 more than once at Bonneville. Seemed OK to me.

Let me correct myself a little bit. I had a dead perch on the right side. Shackle on the left only. And I had a four bar. i actually used a '32 Ford steering box.

The pretty much stock front end setup has always worked OK for me.Usually if they are floppy or want to wobble something is worn out.Parallel rear leaf springs are generally going to be easy and work well,I just dont really have enough room for them here.Coil overs in the rear work fine,I just dont like them on this style car. Tommyknocker what engine\trans are you using for your pile?

  9. Thanks for the info.
I have a '55 301 polysphere, and a 26 t body on a box frame. Mr. Fox supplied the adapter stuff to run a manual trans

Looks like you have pretty much everything you need right there. How are you locating the rear end? Wishbone, radius rods etc.Really neat engine choice!

  11. Thanks, this one should be fun.
I don't know yet, that's why I'm stalking your build for ideas!
I'll get started on this one after I finish my teardrop, one project at a time

Valve lifters got here.I have the engine pretty well together at this point,I am just waiting on a timing chain now.stuck the int/exh on it today just to see how it looked.I have primarily been working on a really angry little 292" Chev v-8 and working on this on the side.I havent posted any pics of the 292 because I am using OT heads and didnt want to upset anyone. I scored a steering wheel for the speedster at the turkey rod run! It seems to be in pretty good shape. All I have done is glass bead the metal and prime and paint it.About the last thing I expected to find. DSCN1542.JPG

I see it has been a year since I posted on this thread! I mocked the engine and trans up in the frame and do not like the way it looks. It is just too long for the car.(I have NO idea why the font just changed).I had a junk model A engine and trans that could be repaired but----Last week I picked up a pretty decent A engine that I think I will use.Today at the turkey rod run I picked up a 39 ford trans cheap 100_0139.JPG and a ratty model A cowl so I reckon the build is back on.I will post pics of the trans and cowl tomorrow.I have everything for this engine from the junk engine except a repairable distributor.

You probably caught the Ctrl key when you meant to only get the Shift and "I" keys.

  16. There is a simpler way. after filing the top of the broken bolt flat. You set the head back on. Using a drill bit the exact same size as the hole in the head you drill a small amount. That will exactly center for a smaller drill bit.

Thank you for the tip but I think I will keep it.Never know when you might need an engine and trans! :)

  19. Yep I have a 25 inch head engine I took out of a 2 ton truck.. Im keeping it because I might use it sometime? It runs good and had antifreeze in it and didn't blow any air bubbles in the radiator. But it seemed to run a bit hot. Im thinking the water distribution tube needs replacing? perhaps maybe you will happen across a power wagon or old dodge truck to put your mill into. Lots of projects have started out with just a engine.

Since the water tube is likely the hardest part to get out of the engine thats likely what it is! Packard made their water tubes out of brass, what a GOOD idea! Here are a couple of pics one proving that you can actually put a complete model A cowl in the trunk of a 55 ford, pic of the cowl and a pic of the trans.Trans looks good inside, turns and shifts smoothly and had plenty of old oil in it. 21. I happen to know that a lazy boy and three friends can go into a 65 Beetle, and the front half of a T touring body can be transported in a 76 Toyota Celica. Just in case someone is searching the H.A.M.B. for transporting either of those items. Sorry no pictures though, so I guess it didn't happen.

To have fun, is 99.9% of the goal.

Well I had no luck finding a model A header flange so I reckon I will make my own.I started out with a piece of 2" X 3\8" flat stock 3 feet long.I established a C to C distance on the holes in the manifold and measured them for size-1 3\8"-then center drilled the centers of the holes, put the piece of stock in the mill and started drilling.I got this far and am delighted to note that the 2 end holes align perfectly with the ports.I will do more tomorrow. Got farther along today. Drilling the last port. Next pic shows the flange and intake kind of stuck onto the engine. dont intend to run the stock intake as a down draft but it was what I had for mockup. DSCN1636.JPG DSCN1634.JPG

  26. heres a 217 that came out of a 49 dodge pk. It certainly aint free. I don't think even MMO would get it unstuck. I uncovered it to take the picture. It has a sheet of tin over it to keep out the rain. setting & rotting 029.JPG

I have seen people fix worse. Of course it was a KJ Henderson, not a 218 mopar.

  28. Yes it could be bored or even sleeved. It was torn down and partially stripped when We got it and the rest of a pilot house truck. For some reason I couldn't justify selling it for scrap back when scrap was at record prices a few years ago.

Stuck the cowl on the frame today just to see, definitely have to shorten the windshield. Can anyone identify this transmission? I was told it was a 38-39 ford. DSCN1637.JPG DSCN1639.JPG DSCN1640.JPG
