A friend is building a 36 Ford that his father had since 1942.Years ago his father installed a 59ab and a 37 steering box, he just bought a set of Fenton cast iron headers for it and the left side won't fit. Is there a way to make them fit ? Thanks. Tony
I put a set of Fenton's on and 8BA in a '36 Ford about 20 years ago (BTW, all Fenton's are the same as well as the exhaust ports placement on 8BA's and earlier engines). I raised the mounts a bit, ground on the headers a bit, and ground on the steering box a bit, and they fit. There was also a thread here or on the "Ford Barn" about this. In it they talked about having the engine side of the left header milled at an angle to make it fit. From what I remember about doing mine, it sounds like the way to go. The "Search" function is your friend. You already have a head start with the '37 steering box; it gives you a little more room; plus, it's a lot better unit all around. (I should have said "all Fenton's are supposed to be the same. There seem to be slight differences between originals and some of the later versions.)
Tony, what did your friend end up with on the Fenton's? I've got a '36 with 59AB and 37 steering box, wanting to upgrade the headers. Let us know how it turned out. Thanks
