Hot Rods **Street & Strip Hot Rods Please Stand Up**

I did some 1/8th mile drag racing with my roadster at a local event this past Saturday and had a blast. I entered in the Stick Shift cl***. It was a heads-up no prep event that was primarily late model cars, some of which are quite fast! A lot of the 'street outlaw' crowd. It was fun to line up against new Mustangs and beat them... Well, except for the newer Shelby GT 500 Mustang that beat me in the second round. It was a modified car with 700+HP and was running slicks and front-runners. I did stay with him pretty good down the track, though.

Regardless, we had a great time and I'm looking forward to racing again at the July event.

Myself and @jho bolted up our slicks (and I bolted the roll bar in my car), g***ed up and made the 30 min. drive to the track. He ended up breaking a rear axle and we went down to get his car the next morning.

How many others do the same? True street and strip hot rods that get driven to the track, raced, and driven home? Please chime in! We'll be making the 5-6 hour drive down to the HAMB Drags again this year, with slicks in tow in another vehicle.

Humboldt Dragway in Humboldt Ia is having three No Prep races this summer. I went to the first one last October. This would be a great venue to get a bunch of HAMB guy to converge on. 1st event was supposed to be last weekend but was cancelled due to weather, not sure if they picked a new date or not.

I've been getting the 40 ready. 410 Motown SBC, Eagle Crank Rods, Clay Smith Cam, Quick Fuel Carb, Super T-10, New shifter. Next up is some Cal Tracs, and maybe some drag radials.

10.90s @ 125 at the HAMB Drags, 10.50s @ 129 at my home track.



What kind of times did you guys run? Gonna be a good run for the Cup this year if you two are coming.

HAMB drags are on my radar. I'm aiming towards the Meltdown this year. The wife and I keep looking at houses, which really screw's with planning.

Thanks for posting this! Humboldt is about 3 hours from Omaha, so I'd like to make the trip up there to run. Besides the Oct. 1st date, do you know of another 'Street Race' event?

 

Too late, I already am... I actually grew up around this stuff, but it was mainly motorcycles. My dad drag raced a KZ Kawasaki at Thunder Valley near Marion, South Dakota and I spent many Sundays there as a kid. The track is still open and they are celebrating their 50th year this year.

 

I've been known to play that game....although it's a late model, not quite the real hot rod that you drive.

All mine are street strip cars, none of mine are very fast.

No reason to post the sedan it will be a daily that gets run sometimes but there isn't much there yet.

Ran 10s and drove home and all on a bad crank.

I doubt that the raven will post but this one is his street strip car.

 

What's that?
I was driving it to Bakersfield, had screwed in the side windows, and put in earplugs. Only then, could I hear the valve train was a little loose. I have some real trick sound deadener which I have threatened to install under the floor, but it sounds so much like a Sprint Car inside, I just can't bring myself to change anything.

 

Maybe not a hot rod in the early Ford fashion, but a bad *** hot rod, none-the-less! All the miles you've put on and p***es you've made in that car sure are impressive!

We didn't get time slips at this event, just a win light. It was an 1/8th mile heads-up no prep event. We staged and went on green, no three yellows first. Going off of our HAMB Drags time slips from last year, we are both around 7.75/7.80, 90 mph in the 1/8th mile.

 

All you guys with the sub 10 sec 1/4 mile ET, what safety equipment are you required to run? A friend of mine took his car (MGA w/ blown SBC) to a local track, and just by looking at it and guessing how quick it would run required him to add several safety items, including a parachute. He declined. I'm just curious what you've had to add to meet your track's requirements.

 

If you are running at a sanctioned track you have to run whatever the sanctioning body requires. At a non sanctioned track you run whatever the tech guy says, it is usually a little less stringent than say an NHRA track is but still most tracks want a minimum of a 4 or 6 point cage and a cut battery switch, seat belts and a helmet.

 

Not nearly as fast as anything else posted here, but never afraid to drive to the track and see what it will do?

 

There was a time that I had to be the fastest SOB in the valley. Now I am less compe***ive than I once was and all I need to be is fast enough to make me grin.

11-12 seconds is more than fast enough for me.

 

It's about 2.5 hours for me. The No Prep is almost no-tech, you do get a time slip on the return road. It's a throw back in time! The win light is on the tree, so you have to look in your mirror to see if you won!
