Will a 200ci from a '79 Lincoln Zephyr slip into my '60 Falcon's engine bay with little or no MAJOR alterations? I think I need to save my 144's oil pan, other than that....????

    Quick before he sells it!

I'm no expert, but I think you will find that the "200" in that 79 will probably be a 240 ci.
I tried using one out of a 79 Fairmont for my 65 Mustang and found out they were two different motors. I was trying to use the motor and bolt it to the 65 ******, it was a no go.

The later pan and pickup won't work. The Zephyr has a rear sump, so you'll need to use the 144 pan. I'm not sure about the pickup. It may fit the later pump, but some mods to the bolt holes might be needed. The Zephyr block should have a rear dipstick tube that needs to be plugged.

The early distributor won't work. The distributor shaft and pump dirve are larger on the later engine.

The late engine doesn't have a road draft tube, but a PCV is better anyway.

Other than that, it should just bolt in.

  4. Go to www.fordsix.com and get all your details covered. It's really an easy swap for the most part.

You may have gotten hold of a 250. Lots of differences that make it a no-go as far as a direct swap. The 240 is a smaller version of the 300 and is different engine altogether.

I suppose the only other thing to watch for is the later "big bell" version of the 200. The later 80-81 blocks were redisigned for a low starter and a different bellhousing bolt pattern. They won't easily interchange with the early engines either.

In any case, lots of answers at www.fordsix.com/forum .

I put a 79 fairmont inline in my comet. I saved the pan and I had to bend the pickup tube to make it work. I didn't want that big *** ugly dissy either so I put in one from a later 60's 200 in it's place, but that big ugly thing is supposed to work a lot better. Other than that it was a straight bolt in.

It's this one, and I asked the moderator about a swap - he said it should bolt right in... except for the oil pan, distributor etc. - yay!

It's still attached to the automatic too... wonder if it has discs? Might be an awful good parts car for $500, yes?

If it's a Zephyr I don't think the brakes and stuff will work. It is a fox body car instead of the bigger older body style of the Granada/Versailles that would have the disc brakes and rear end you need.
