i already posted these pictures on the"Re purposing parts" thread. because I couldn't find this one. But as long as we are talking about band saws. I wanted to cut up that aluminum head to stretch it. But the vise jaws wouldn't open enough even though the blade opening was long enough to cut the head. And sometimes i want to cut something on an angle. Or it's to short for the vise to grip it. So I made two T nuts to fit the moveable vise jaw guide slot. Tapped them both 1/2 and 3/8 so i could use either. now I can just use finger clamps to hold stuff or put the vise back on if I want.

 

Not much of a tool, but it did the trick when I needed it. I was helping my son replace his clutch and the pilot bushing puller we had was too big to fit in the bushing. I heard about packing the hole with grease then finding a rod the size if the hole to pound on. This would compact the grease and force the bushing out. I never thought it would work. He said the grease makes a mess and bread works better. I told him he was crazy, but we tried it and it worked!
We used the slide hammer rod, bread and a hammer. Here it is with the bread plug.

 

I did the grease trick on my 331 and it worked great. I was even surprised that worked as well as it did. I heard about the bread too, and was quite curious if it would work also. Guess I've got my answer!

 

I cant remember where I picked up that little trick but I have always used bread too. Still messy (It mixes with the residual grease) but easier to clean up. I wrap A rag around the rod to use as a spatter shield. You can also stuff it into a copper riser (that is holding water) so it can be soldered when plumbing copper pipe. It will disintegrate and come through the fixture after. Who'da thunk it?

 

I always use wet, wadded up paper. Works like a charm. I bet the bread does too.

 

I have threaded the bushing and then used a bolt to push it out.

 

Once I did the thread trick, I never messed with anything else. In fact the last time i just kept turning the tap and the bushing came right out. Saved a step.

 

I needed to machine my F-1 steering box so I could put a new flange on it. The 4 jaw chuck we have was a bit too small to hold the box, so I made this little fixture to use the 3 jaw. It worked well.

New metal shaping stand for sandbag/anvil/dolly...may add other attachments later

 

Clamp rack...keeps them handy and all in one place...rolls under welding bench.

 

Eljorger; beautiful work, but may I please make a suggestion? Removal of the starter ring from the flywheel will save your floor from many scrapes and divots (spoken from personal experience).

 

Upgraded and motorized HF Bead roller. 5 volt 15 amp DC power supply with foot pedal control and reverse. added a sprocket and chain and a skateboard wheel for tension.

That's what i'm talking about. A friggen build thread right inside the main thread. I like all the stuff here,

 

First photos are of a radius cutter I made for my lathe, so I could make rollers for the ring roller I made.

 

Very nice. I've been wanting to make a radius cutter like that. I'm not happy with the one we have.

 

well I had some time to make some adapters to hold body panels or parts while working on them....may have to make some additions brackets for other applications, but overall satisfied with my beater/sandbag stand.

What are these clamps called and where can they be sourced?

 

We call them "bessy clamps" I bought mine at my local welding supply store, and almost every welder I know has a few.

 

Commonly referred to as "Bessey" clamps(due to name of early Co. that makes them), they, or similar, are usually available at welding supply shops, Tractor Supply, Orchard Supply, Home Depot, etc

 

In all honesty I'm probably going to steal this idea (for personal use) [emoji2]

I bought these at Home Depot here in San Diego, they are German made...work really well...about 50.00 bucks a piece.

 

Thanx, guys. I'm surprised I've never seen them before. However, at 50 bux each it's a slam dunk I'll never have any.

 

Keep an eye out in the local classifieds. The best clamps you can buy are used and 30+ years old.

 

I got a set of I think it was 8 on sale at MSC. Don't know if they are still on sale, but worth a look.
