If anybody has done this I would like to see pics.

  2. Gets done all the time Model A lights did not hang off the fender that hung off the body.

Look on about any model A thread for examples.

    Here's one for ya

That's one of the ways to tell a 28 from a 29. The 28 is off the body and the 29 is on the fender. If you see an original 28 with 40's, Chev, or Pontiac lights under the trunk/rumble seat and the holes have not been filled or screws are put in them the left corner right at the bottom will show that's where it mounted.

28 is off the body, 29-31 is on the fender. The style Beaner posted off the frame rail is a 32 style mount as far as I'm aware.

That being said they are used plenty and agree that a quick search for a "tail light" photo thread should yield lots of results

I've done it, but I did it wrong. Pics are in my album, somewhere. I'm too lazy to look. But, the reason I never liked them was because they looked like an "after thought". If you do it, make them blend in. That's the secret.

I've seen any number of them and I'd have to agree with Tfeverfred on that you have to put them on in a way where they look like they belong there all along and not an "oh shit I gotta have tail lights" afterthought. They are clean, simple and don't cost a hell of a lot so why not use them.

Not that it matters too much but the body mounted tail lights on 28 and early 29 were a drum shape and not a teacup. Stole this pic off the Fordbarn.

Tail lights from a late 30s Chevy car or Chevy AD truck (47-53) makes a nice alternative.

Yes, I already know that they are non-traditional LED lights! image.jpeg

If they keep you from getting "traditionally" rear ended, what the hell!

I sometimes mount them in a rear bumper/nerf bar, if it fits the application. IMG_1850.JPG

You guys hit the nail on the head as always. I like the lenses with "stop" in them, just trying to figure out a way to make them not look like an afterthought.

I always liked the earlier version tail light. Here are a couple more showing how my stock roadster is set up. I always like seeing how some were set up originally so perhaps I can build something that looks similar.
