Ok, found a blocked port in the right rear wheel cylinder. Wasn't drilled completely thru. Repaired that, replaced the brake line because I didn't like the flare I made, tada, I have a brake pedal!
Also got the seats and seat belts bolted in. Left them green for now, too many conflicting reports on the results from dye and upholstery paint. Decided I'll live with the mint green until upholstery money is available.

But I was about to attempt to drive it around the parking lot and video it, when the serpentine belt started popping off.
Nothing I try keeps it on. I tweaked the idlers alignment, since it seems to ride the belt off the water pump pulley on top. But I think it's flexing and allowing the belt to ride off in that spot, not the physical alignment until it's under tension.

Only takes a few thousandths to mess things up.

Think I might redo it to use a spring loaded tensioner. Just need to find one that will work in the space allowed.

Belt fix turnout out to be pretty simple. After a few hours of experimentation and no positive results. I realized the idler was on the tension side and it might work better on the slack side(under load).
Whalla! Works perfectly. Needed a shorter belt, set the tension and perfect.

Drove her around the property at work. Runs good, but the accelerator pump must have dried up because it's got a wicked hesitation keeping me from romping on it.

Once that's fixed those tires are toast and I'll go up a few sizes. Haha

Thanks Loudbang! I'm getting mixed input and I'm not sure myself about it. On one hand it's the old fashioned Hot Rod gl*** pack sound from when I was a kid. On the other, it could sound more modern with different mufflers.

I'm going to give it some time and see what I think after its on the road a bit.

Today was a great day. Fixed the carb and tuned everything in. Runs great now!

Got done so soon I had time to wire the power windows finally! Done!

Ok, time to find a better way to work my throttle linkage. Seems like the pedal is fairly stiff, not too stiff, but it is a little stiff. Yet, the secondary carbs don't return to idle completely once I engage them?

Are some using a second spring for them, or am I doing something incorrectly? I've gone over the simple stuff, I'll get some better pics if that helps.

I looked at the carb linkage and noticed something, I'm sure others have sorted out on the 3x2's?

When the choke is engaged the progressive linkage doesn't hold the front and rear carbs closed any longer. This causes random idle changes and other issues, like tip in bog.

Does anyone have a pic of their set ups?

I'll have to do some searching in the mean time, in case I don't get help here.

Sounds like the primary is on the cold start fast idle cam step and thart is enough to pull on the linkage on the end ones

Yes, it's def up in the fast idle cam. The problem is the other carbs are held closed at idle, by the primary carb the way I was told to set it up. So with the choke on, the other carbs can move as they vibrate.

I ordered a second return spring and bracket kit. I'll use the light spring from the kit on that linkage, separate from the primary carbs return springs.

Not sure what others are doing for this. I can't be the first to notice it?

I also removed the exhaust system to clean up my non-professional welds and touch up the tops where access was poor.

I'll take pics of it tomorrow.

Up on fast idle, there is a gap that allows the secondary carbs to do as they please...up to about .100 or so.

I did get the exhaust welds cleaned up a lot. Came out ok. I'm far from an expert welder and it shows. More of an expert grinder...3 hours in this, just to clean up my welds.

Wish I had a TIG and some more stuff to fab.

I got the 3x2 linkage working perfectly. Had to remove the bends and adjust the spacing so it would work straight on. I also had to relocate the pull at the secondary carbs to smooth the action.

Last thing I noticed is the throttle cable is hanging up on release, intermittently...because the braided housing is too soft. It has no inner liner. EBay junk teaches me another lesson.

Repaired a transmission leak that was coming from my speedometer gear seal, thru the housing and wicking out of the speed sensor for the speedometer.
Local trans shop gave me a better seal(red) that has a spring around the gear shaft and a much stiffer outer seal to the gear housing.

I don't see it in the photo's but this double return spring set will prevent the throttle from hang up,HRP

I did get the throttle sorted out, by adding a 3rd spring for a light pull only on the secondary carbs.

I repaired the throttle cable housing with an emergency brake spring I had. It was a .250 I.D. spring, so it fit perfectly over the .250 O.D. Cable housing to keep it from kinking.

Everything is working safely, repeatedly and precisely now!

I'll upload a new video soon.

Notice how quickly an eBay PCV breather loses its chrome. 2 years, just sitting on the motor and its destroyed. I'll strip and paint it soon.

Every time I read a post for the first time, I see a lot of people saying only a Ford engine should be in a Ford car.

I'm surprised there is so much focus on originality in a Hot Rod forum.

Candles lit in the shop for this pic. Cool effect the LED's give off with the headlamps off.

Worked on tidying up the wiring and started gathering materials for door panels.

Looks like my expensive AGM XS battery is trashed from sitting so long without a trickle charger on it. Makes me sad. $200 battery.
I'm going to keep charging it as needed and buy a new one when it's finally ***led and going on the road. It's dead after 6 days as it is.

Talked to Summit in live chat today and they said the battery is under warranty and they are sending another out. Including a return shipping label for the other battery. No charge!

Summit racing is awesome! So glad I didn't buy this battery on EBay!

I should finally get some time to start the door panel templates this weekend, haven't touched Vicky in a few weeks now, makes me sad.

  29. I see you already found a work around, but the end carbs have their own return springs.
    Sounds good !
