Yes did a search but came up empty.
Our y block ford has a front sump with the drain in the centre of the rear of the well. Have filled with a little over 5 quarts , started it so filter is full. Just trying to estsblish correct capacity for this. Its a new motor but am not sure if the dipstick is correct as there is 2" of oil on the stick and still 1" to the full mark. Thanks.

I put 5 quarts in mine, fresh engine, new oil filter...it was about 1/4" above the ADD mark. The book for mine says 6 quarts to refill if you change the filter.

this is a front sump 292 in a 59 edsel.

My dad had a '60 wagon with a 292 for many years. The oil change was 5 qts or 6 with a filter change. Did it many times. (every 2000 back then)

6 is correct for all the cars, birds and light trucks. Some heavy duty trucks had larger pans, 7qt IIRC.

Somebody allowed maybe the cartridges held more than a spin-on filter, thus the discrepancy today. 5 quarts is perfect on the stick for my truck w/spin on type modern filter. Hm.

Great , so I need to add another quart. That is obviously sufficient but I doubt it will raise the level on the stick 1" to reach the full mark so it seems the stick maybe incorrect. So after adding a total of 6 quarts I can sleep easy.

I measured the dipstick tube on mine, it enters the block at the front. It's 15.5" long. The dipstick measures 21" from the Full line, to the top of the little cup that fits over the tube.

Thanks Squirrel those numbers helped a bunch, also putting my gl***es on helped ,Ha. I could see from your numbers the very faint original full mark at 21" which is below the full word, but some one long ago saw fit to cut a new mark above the full word making it a 7 quart fill. The original line was below the full word. A simple weld job and remark the correct line.

I just drove my 55 thunderbird I picked up, for the first time and I'm ridiculously stoked!!! Today was the first time she's seen the road since the early 80s! I feel like I'm on top of the world right now! What an awesome feeling!

Oh yea I almost forgot haha I put exactly 5 quarts in her original 292, I'm running a stock cartridge, not a spin on. 5 quarts seemed to put it just a smidgen off the full mark...should I not trust the ole stick and just put 6 quarts in? Saw earlier post say the birds should take 6 as well with a filter change.
